For us riding on you, that is literally the procedure. I had a very impatient gate agent last week in the ATL. I killed him with kindness and politely asked if there was anything I could do to help him out. He changed his demeanor after that and told me to just hang on a minute and he would get me.I miss the good old days when you'd just walk up, politely ask for a jumpseat, fill out a form and just board.
All airlines should be America West jumpseat procedures.
I think he may have been new. A supervisor came down after a while, printed me a jumpseat pass, and then told me to go down with the preboards, introduce myself, and sit in the "first class not in first class" exit row seat by the aft door flight attendant jumpseat on the mad dog. It was awesome and I got home earlier than I would have riding on company and in more comfort.
