Southwest fires pilots for takeoff — of their uniforms

Re: Southwest fires pilots for takeoff ? of their uniforms

[ QUOTE ]
I disagree, this is not a professional way of doing business if it was anything other than the spilled coffee story. Its ok to have fun, but come on!

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this was just a case of a couple of guys screwing around. Come on, folks. Is the crew's ability to fly the airplane, even if there is an emergency, compromised by them not having clothes on?

No, it is not. Therefore, a slap on the wrist is appropriate, since the safety of the flight was never in question. Firing is not.

Re: Southwest fires pilots for takeoff ? of their uniforms

I remember hearing about tanker crews flying naked my first assignment. I guess with all the military guys going to SWA, it was bound to happen there too. I think its hilarious and hopefully these guys will be working again soon.

Re: Southwest fires pilots for takeoff ? of their uniforms

I think it also shows a little slant as well.

If this was a Delta pilot, people would have lost their minds and it would have been breaking news on CNN.

Whether or not the crew's ability to safely operate the aircraft were being comprimised, it is still unprofessional behavior and gives Southwest a bad name. That is probably why they were dismissed, to show the public that action was taken instead of just ignoring it. Besides, how many people are gonna fly an airline where the pilots are playin' grabass in the cockpit and getting away with it?

If you took off your clothes at work and got caught, what do you think would happen? Even if you weren't putting anyone in danger, you were goofing off on the job and I can understand if Southwest doesn't want to tolerate it.

Just my opinion anyway...

[Note to self] "Taking pants off in 737 cockpit = bad career move..." [/Note to self]

Re: Southwest fires pilots for takeoff ? of their uniforms

A while ago BA realised they had lost a lot of their handcuffs from their aircraft. There was a notice handed around asking for themto be returned. The media caught onto this and published a story. BA comments on the story were: British Airways Cabin Crew and very professional and I firmly believe the hand cuffs were removed so they could practice restraint techniques. However we do need them on our aircraft so we are asking for them to be retruned, and there will be no questions asked.'

They didn't get fired for playing grabass with the F/A, they got fired because when they were initally asked about the incident they lied about it. Definatly one way to get fired at WN is to lie. Even knowing that I still think the pilot and F/A who were terminated should get their jobs back.

Yes, I agree all the way.

Re: Southwest fires pilots for takeoff — of their uniforms

"Show us your tits"? Pilots exposing themselves? HUGE sexual harassment lawsuit material.

Just plane stupid. (pardon the pun)

[ QUOTE ]
Show me where they busted the FOM or FARs by flying in their boxers.

[/ QUOTE ]

This might be covered under 61.153 (c) which says that ATPs must be of good moral character. The only other time that I have heard of this FAR being used in a certificate action was a guy who almost lost his license for mooning a squadron of CAP cadets.

Frankly, the whole thing reminds of signs on restaurants that say "No shirt, no shoes, no service." Does that mean that you can go in without pants? Most likely not.

While, I agree that this is probably blown out of proportion, it was very unprofessional behavior.

Hey even if you have shoes, and shirts you get no service on SWA.

I didn't say don't punish them. I said slap them on the wrist, maybe suspend them or something, and then let them fly again.

I really don't think this was a big deal. It's like Xeroxing copies of your butt on the office copier as a joke. Yeah, it's unprofessional, it's stupid, and it's silly, but I don't think it's a firing offense.

Re: Southwest fires pilots for takeoff — of their uniforms

3 questions:

1. Did the F/a show her tits?
2. Did the F/A HAVE tits to show?
3. Did the F/A lose his/her job?

1. Did the F/a show her tits?

[/ QUOTE ]

She told allegedly to the pilots that in order for them to see her tits, they would have to strip,so since they got buck naked I'm assuming she showed her goodies.

2. Did the F/A HAVE tits to show?

[/ QUOTE ]
I was given the names of the crew but can't place her....if she started after I left then I won't know who she is...but the SW grapevine is very effective, so pics may be circulating very shortly.

3. Did the F/A lose his/her job?

[/ QUOTE ]
She's gone.....but she might get her job back because the F/As are in contract talks and may delay signing anything if she is not brought back.

Re: Southwest fires pilots for takeoff ? of their uniforms

[ QUOTE ]
Along the lines of the F/A's flashing; I remember hearing a few years back about two pilots who got in trouble for staging a wet T-shirt contest in the cockpit on a flight with a bunch of hot chicks, probably a cheerleading team or something...

[/ QUOTE ]

I think that was a charter flight to Cancun during spring break. Might have been ATA. If one of those girls had been under 18, god I couldn't even imagine the wrath of lawsuits they'd face.
