Southwest employee policy? probably any airline

Once again, for my masters I need some info on Southwest I can't seem to find...I'm assuming other airlines are similar, so any airline people, input is appreciated. Tattoo policy, I'm assuming tattoos are allowed as long as you have them covered by long sleeves or short sleeves in the work uniform? Are there any hair length requirements? Facial hair (I want to say mustache only?)?

Thanks!

masters degree in employee grooming policy?

Identify for me a basic physical privacy right issue in the workplace you are studying. You may think about:

drug testing

polygraph testing

physical requirements about hair or clothing

pregnancy

dating/sexuality

whatever you wish.

EXPECTATIONS:

Identify one issue and explain the utilitarian and deontological considerations.

Dunno about Southwest, but here, tats must be covered at all times. We have a bunch of FAs who every once in a while get in trouble because they have ankle tats and the hose they were isn't dark enough to cover them all the way.

That said we have about two or three pilots who have tats on their lower arms (not a sleeve or anything, but pretty noticeable) and never where long sleeves and nobody seems to say anything about it.

Facial hair is limited to mustache only... must be trimmed and fit inside the 02 mask.

Jetblue is the only airline I know of that allows goatees.

Women are limited to one pair of ear piercings. Guys none.

There used to be this huge "Impressions of Excellence" program that discussed all this stuff for new hires but after the merger it kind of disappeared. About the same time they killed off the non rev dress code requirements. See a trend?

I bolded what I thought would be an interesting angle :)

No visible tattoos. But you can't wear long-sleeved shirts without the blazer so just assume you can't have anything that will be exposed in "summer" uniform.

We have hair length requirements -- can't reach the collar or something like that. Yes, there is a pilot I know that was instructed to get a haircut...

You can have a full-on ALPA'stache, but nothing too crazy.

Both of these are the evil cousins of the more inconspicuous 'wear'. :D

I'm not sure about specifics for pilots, but our policy at SWA is pretty relaxed. If I recall, tattoos have to be covered, but guys' hair can be as long as you want it providing it doesn't look like a complete disaster. Nothing really specific about facial hair...again, they just ask you to use good judgment.

For airport employees, we're supposed to wear our uniforms at all times, but it doesn't always happen. Rampers sometimes show up in their own t-shirts, and I've seen gate agents sport Lakers jerseys on game days. Definitely not typical for airlines, but it works out with our culture and management does not really mind.

For the office employees, it's really relaxed. Flip flops, shorts, and t-shirts are not only allowed, but encouraged. :)

thank you very much!

and thank you to everyone else

But can your phone.... AutoTune? :)

Nope it actually can't. Palm hasn't released an API yet for developers to access the microphone. So no TPain for me right now.

That's actually pretty common. Before Airways pulled down PIT, if you went through there on a game day pretty much every gate agent was wearing (I SPELLED IT RIGHT!!! WHAT NOW!!!!) black and gold.

FYI, rampers at SWA can have tattoos. Plenty of the guys (and some gals) I worked with had visible tattoos.
