Southwest Airlines

Hello everyone, I have finales this week and I have to write a research paper on the successful and/or unsuccessful application of organizational behavior concepts in any organization. It’s truly not “any organization”, my professor gave us a list to choose from, and of-course I chose SW Airlines duh…! Anyway, I have been searching like crazy and have found a few good articles about SW AL. The concepts I am researching are, decision making, motivation, and group behavior.

If anyone could give me a link or place to find some articles relating to the above that would be awesome. Thanks in advance guys and gals!.

Try the book "Nuts." It's all about SWA's business model and how to apply it, but it provides some good insight as to how their organization works.

Also, check out the book called "The Southwest Way." It talks a lot about what you are writing your research paper on. "Nuts" is a must.

Thanks guys, I just got back from Barnes and Noble, they had both “Nuts!” and “The Southwest Way” These are awesome books, and provide a lot of information and sources, which will be good a for a 25 page research paper J

Thirding "Nuts."

It's actually required reading at a number of companies in the non-aviation world.

They actually give SWA employees a copy of "Nuts" in training. I read it before I interviewed there, and I was planning on buying it anyway. Nice of them to forsee my needs and give me a copy. Still have it on my aviation bookshelf.

I need an aviation book-shelf, I have die-cast model aircraft, and a bunch of books….anyway, I like SW employee—relation approach, their “LUV” and “FUN” concepts are pretty amazing.

Hey, if you are looking for an uncessfull way organizational behavior plays a role, take a look at NASA. Especially the Challenger accident. I did an extensive paper on that organizational behavior relationship/groupethink concept. It was quite interesting.

I work at NASA. I'd love to read that paper. PM me and I'll send you money to photocopy and mail to me...

I agree w/ you. NASA is still a broken organization.
