Dallas police met a Southwest Airlines plane at Dallas Love Field on Monday after flight staff reported that a passenger refused to stop using his mobile phone during the flight.

Joe David Jones, 50, was cited for disorderly conduct, Dallas police said.

The incident occurred during a Southwest flight from Austin to Dallas. “After multiple requests, the flight attendants were not successful in getting the passenger to get off the phone,” said Southwest spokeswoman Brandy King.

According to a Dallas police report, flight attendants had asked Mr. Jones to turn off his cell phone and he responded with, "Kiss my ---." When asked again, he stated, "Kiss my ---. Not happening," the report said.

He remained on the phone for about 20 minutes. The pilot radioed the incident to the Love Field tower and Dallas police were notified. Officers met Mr. Jones at the gate and he continued to "exhibit disorderly conduct," police said.

How drunk was he?

Know what I say crews do? Enlist the other passenger's help in convincing these types of individuals to hang up the phone.

Get on the PA and say, ladies and gentlemen, because we have an individual who will not turn off his phone, we'll have to remain on the runway instead of taxiing to the gate. We appreciate your patience with this. Thank you.

Somehow, I have a feeling he would be off his phone real quick.

If not, and the phone somehow gets shoved up his ass, who'd have thunk it?

"Folks, the idiot in 4C refuses to stop jabbering important information on his cell phone. Its obviously more important than you all getting to Dallas so we will have to wait here on the tarmac until he is finished"

Or in this case, get on the PA and say, Ladies and Gentlemen, because we have an individual who will not turn off his phone, our navigational equipment is malfunctioning and, frankly, we don't have a clue which way we're going. Hell, for all we know, we may be flying straight toward a mountain. Or an active volcano. Or an iceberg. But the important thing is that this gentlemen continues his conversation. Thank you.

The gentleman would likely be dead by that point...

I was sitting next a guy coming out of PHL a coule weeks ago on CO who wouldn't hang up his phone. I was getting annoyed as we taxied out and he wouldn't shut it off. WHen we turned onto the active he was still on the damn thing. I told him to turn it off and he didn't. I then told him a bit more aggressively to turn the phone off. He finally got the idea and shut it off. As soon as we landed in CLE he whipped out his phone and was whining in yidish about getting chewed out. Sometimes I wish that I could just beat the piss out of some of the passengers.

who knows with the press, but reading the article it seems he was using it during the flight. I am surprised he was able to get reception.

Re: Southwest: Airline passenger refuses to hang up cell pho

You know you would think after 9/11 the public would wise up, do their homework on traveling on airlines, and especially cooperate with crew member instructions and FAA regs, apparently not! Whats wrong with people these days?? It seems the futher we get from the anniversary of 9/11, the worse people are acting as far as following the law. Let me give share with you two examples: The airline terminal at the airport I work is very small, and we had a pax an american/white guy (in case you were wondering) show up late for his flight, all the ticket agents were out on the ramp working the flight because we are all cross utilized so noone was there to help him, but doesnt matter cause he was late anyway. Anyways, he busted out a screen from a small window and tryed to climb out a small window to get onto the ramp, which is a SIDA area, to catch his flight. Well he got stuck in the process and got arrested instead of just going standby on the next available flight. He claimes he was going to a meeting for work and he was not going to be late no matter what. Well its kind of hard to make any dead line if your sitting in jail! (dumbass)
Another story, happened about a month ago, a guy was sitting in a row by himself next to a window. Well it was night time so he had his overhead light on with the tray table down chopping up a line of cocaine!!!:panic::panic:
The way this idiot got caught, the pax in front of him was looking out her window, but saw off the reflection of her window the guy chopping up a line, turn off his light, than heard him sniff sniff a few times. She casually asked the FA if she could change seats a few rows up on the opposite side of the airplane to get a better view of the city they were flying over. The FA agreed. As soon as the lady changed seats, she wrote on a sick bag what she had seen the guy doing and gave it to the FA when she was collecting the trash, and told her to go to the front of the plane and read the note. After touchdown, there were LEO's waiting on the ramp for this guy, and was quickly detained and than arrested after the LEO's finding more drugs on him and him confessing to the incident.:panic::panic::panic: So how do I know, cause I was sitting 3 rows up from this genius and didnt have any idea what was going on untill the FA told me the story afterwords. WOW!!! thats all I can say. *didnt mean to get side tracked, just wanted to share since we're on the subject of idiots traveling*

I like this idea. A PAX Code Red.

Re: Southwest: Airline passenger refuses to hang up cell pho

Hopefully with fares on the upswing to a level where they should be, that in itself will filter out alot of the human garbage that has been able to afford to fly over the past few years, and these sorry excuses for people will be where they belong.......on Greyhound.

Re: Southwest: Airline passenger refuses to hang up cell pho

I wish the airlines would band together and blackball these people... and those numb-nutts that sue. Then perhaps people would actually behave, if they have to ride on Greyhound to get where there are going.

Re: Southwest: Airline passenger refuses to hang up cell pho

The story you'll be reading tomorrow:

Man kicked off Southwest flight sues
"I was just sitting there minding my own business, and the FA just started yelling at me, threatening to have me arrested. I guess my phone was just too cool for them."

Re: Southwest: Airline passenger refuses to hang up cell pho

It would be better if the companies would stop settling out of court with these sue happy bastards, and/or counter sue them for the court fees. The big issue, IMHO, is that people are encouraged to sue for anything and everything these days. How about they get discouraged instead?

I dont disagree, but unfortunately these sorry excuses come from all walks of life. poor to rich, its just people who think they are just better then everyone else.

People are just getting rude and inconsiderate. Its becoming a “its all about me, screw the next guy society" and people just dont care about their neighbor anymore.

Not everyone mind you, just a lot of people!

Re: Southwest: Airline passenger refuses to hang up cell pho

We have a CA who is former LE. He is adamant about pax obeying FA's and has a low level of tolerance for nonsense. (Bless his heart!) There was a a recent incident where a pax refused to turn off the cell and the FA had no other choice but to inform the CA after repeated unsuccessful tries on her own. He took care of it and do you know what the jackass pax said to the FA, "You didn't have to make it that difficult." SHE didn't have to make it difficult? WTF???!!!
Funny how pax don't always listen to us, but willl listen when a guy with 4 stripes and a hat tells them the exact same thing!

This appears to be our champ. Way to introduce your company to the world, Mr. Jones. :banghead:

:laff: Nice find!! If the press got a hold of that, I'd hate to be an investor in his company. You would think that a guy supposedly smart enough to be in that position would be smart enough to avoid such an asinine situation. You would think.

:yeahthat: Yet another perfect example of why some people prefer to fly rubber dog poo out of Hong Kong, or boxes to CDG.

Re: Southwest: Airline passenger refuses to hang up cell pho

CNN just reported the phone call was a life or death situation. His father's heart stopped beating. He was on the phone with a cardiac center.
