This RumorMill you speak of, are they hiring? It seems to be the only thing producing anything these days.![]()
Yeah there's a number of them over here in MZJ, although the 744 aren't yet being towed over to the north area of the field (the scrapping area). Right now, it's still mostly 742s and a few 743s there, the 2s being NWA birds, and 3s being foreign. The 741s from TWA that were here are long gone. But I imagine it won't be long before the first 744 gets hooked up and towed across the runway to here.
In the first pic, most of the NWA 742s you see there are scrapped, or in the process of. The three planes in the far back facing the camera are both being parted out, as well as used as assault training aircraft for the USSOCOM Parachute Test and Training Center facility located to the right of them. In the second pic, the BWIA L-1011 is finally scrapped, as well as the ANA 742, the Phillipines 742, and the TWA 741. The white 743s and 747SPs there are still waiting, and the NWA DC-10s are in the middle of being scrapped. The lone Delta L-1011 sitting on the back-40 was the last L-1011 in revenue service for Delta, and flew the last flight from ATL to Victorville, CA; then was ferried again to Pinal where it serves as a parts source for the Flying Hospital L-1011 based just south at TUS.
Redtail has Airbii sitting out in the desert? Srsly? Why did they put those to pasture and hold onto the diesel 9's?
Forget Airbus and B-747s.
If Southernjets REALLY wants to make a positive difference for themselves.......
......they'll switch to Pepsi products.

So there really is no hope of Mainline ever taking back the RJ's?
Yes I'm a hopeless dreamer.
I have no idea.
If it were up to me, hell yes.
MY UNEDUCATED POMPOUS OPINION ONLY: I think the person in control at a "certain level" has greater aspirations in the "association" that might be dashed if we pressed for the RJ's to come to mainline. Vote early, vote often.

Isnt this the part where they call you an internet geek?
Oh, certain people in certain offices have called me much worse!
But they never actually disagree with my point. Just that I had the balls to actually call them on it.
We'll have a chat on day about it all over a beer or three.
In a general sense (not at any specific shop), what are the arguments against making the RJ flying mainline?
They don't want to fly those pesky little airplanes for crap rates.
Instead, they'll farm it out and let somebody else shovel the crap.
330s are pretty large airplanes.. and if you can't fill em, you can't make money on 'em.
The -9's, old as they are, have likely paid for themselves several times over.
As for the 74's in the desert, that just makes me sad. Brand new, and straight to the pasture? That just ain't right.
