Ok, I've got a good friend who is a flight ops manager in the CPO and appaaaaaarently the numbers in bookings in 2010 are "looking good", they're picking up some more MD-90's and a 777 or two and with marketing's plans, they're going from overstaffing to what some have called understaffing based on marketing's preliminary international route additions in 2010.

That's all I've heard.

Any idea or guesstimate how many they would hire? Let's hope that there will be some hiring, but also for keeping the guys around once we head back into the Fall season when it's slow and flights are being reduced.

No ideas on the numbers.

Apparently the 90s are coming from SAS and some European charter company.

And yes, if wearing the uniform properly is a problem for you, this would be a mistake to apply! :-)

From what I've heard, Ed Bastian said in a recent online chat that Delta signed a LOI with China Eastern for 9 MD-90's.

2198 53582 MD-90-30 B-2256
2200 53583 MD-90-30 B-2257
2203 53584 MD-90-30 B-2258
2224 53585 MD-90-30 B-2262
2233 53586 MD-90-30 B-2263
2240 53587 MD-90-30 B-2265
2248 53588 MD-90-30 B-2268
2259 53589 MD-90-30 B-2269
2261 53590 MD-90-30 B-2270

All the MD-90's will be getting the Weber Slimline seats at 160 seats per plane, with AVOD...never thought I'd see AVOD on a MD!

So, the MD-90's are from China, and not Japan? Got it. Thought they were coming from JAL!

Ok, I've got a good friend who is a flight ops manager in the CPO (note #1) and appaaaaaarently the numbers in bookings in 2010 are "looking good", they're picking up some more MD-90's and a 777 or two and with marketing's plans, they're going from overstaffing to what some have called understaffing based on marketing's preliminary international route additions in 2010.

My take is that Marketing, Network and, Flight Ops are battling it out right now. Network wants to fly more, Flight Ops needs more meat-in-seats to do it but, Marketing doesn't want to pay for it. So, either we hire a few hundred more or else it's going to be Green-Slipapalooza next summer!

Being treated as seasonal-temp labor only occurs at the regional level. No worry.

As pilots?

Delta certainly hires seasonal labor for other employee groups, but I can't say I recall in recent history any mainline carrier hiring pilots and then they are kicked to the street six months to less than a year of service.

I'm considering < 1 year of service as being treated as seasonal-temp help.

Good news. Looks like there could be decent pilot hiring in tha ATL for next year. We're also planning on hiring around 60-70 in the first half of the year. Preference will be given to furloughed Midwest pilots, but others will certainly be hired also.

Donatelli was talking about some numbers "north" of there for you guys, but what the hell does Puppy know? :)

You should have seen our attorney getting all worked up when Donatelli started telling some of his, umm, politically incorrect ;) jokes at our meeting last week. I was laughing my ass off. :)

He's being a little optimistic, though. It's possible that there will be more, but probably not with all of the guys that are accepting recall that were on bypass.
