Southeast Airlines- Scary Stuff

[ QUOTE ]
If this were a small mom & pop maintenance operation, the FAA probably would've pulled their license by now

but airlines that have practices like this always go out of business eventually

In this day and age, how can you possibly expect to axe someone for being in the right both technically and morally

[/ QUOTE ]

Operations like this can exist much longer than one might think (barring a major accident that will guarantee their demise). There are a thousand ways to try and hide routine operational discrepancies, and a thousand ways to manipulate employees (pilots).

I don't know anything about Southeast Airlines, but since I've worked in aviation I've experienced many of the things in that article, first-hand.

. . . taking the lives of passengers and crew down with them!

So sad! The power of money.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not sure what that means. Airlines that don't make money don't survive no matter what their safety practices are.

Over the years I've noticed that few airlines with poor safety practices thrive or even survive for any period of time. It's just not good business.

In the meantime I hope money continues to have a large influence on the airlines. The alternative is a barter system. Can you imagine having to take a live chicken from each passenger for the pilot's pay?.

Meant to say ...

... "[hopefully not] taking the lives of passengers and crew with them"

meaning when they go out of business. I hope their shotty maintenance practices don't end up costing the lives of innocent travellers.

And I simply meant how the power of money drives people to bend the rules, cheat the system, and push machines to the edge at the risk of human sacrifice for personal greed.

It's certainly not the desire to pay their pilots as much as they can to push the limits.
