Southampton Helipad

Landed at Southampton Helipad today (87N) and in many years of helicopter flying it was the first time I landed to a bona fide helipad. Not one of those faux helipads painted onto a taxiway, but a 44 x 44 square with an "H" on it surrounded by nothing and that's it. The aviation dork in me loved it for unexplainable reasons.

I was going to bust your chops hard for you never having ever landed on a helipad at all in your long career......top of building, hospital side or roof pad; until I remembered that you came from Chinooks......and true "pad" landings just were not really done in most normal circumstances as there weren't many where it could be!

But thats a cool accomplishment. Have done the hospital helipad a few times, and it's always interesting.

You guys didn't do shipboard in the Chinook? Helicopter aircraft carrier or large amphibious ship?

Only one I've done is the back of an oiler.

Nope. However my current unit does do some shipboard ops.
