Somewhere, Suze Orman is applauding

Thanks for all the support! I feel great, but scared at the same time. I worked so hard to pay it all down, I'm afraid I'll end up at the bottom again! Right now, I have just enough money to last me until my next paycheck..... essentially a $0 balance. But at least it's not a negative!

LOL Bill, yes I think that's how credit scores work!

Kristie, I actually picked up this tip from Suze somewhere (though I like Dave too)!

I picked the card with the highest interest rate, and paid the minimum balance + whatever I could afford on top of that, and paid the min balance of all the other cards. When I quit smoking, I put the money I WAS using to buy cigarettes into my savings account on a weekly basis.

When that card was paid off, I applied the $$$ I was paying on that card, and applied it to the card with the next highest interest rate, and so on - until there was only one more credit card left. Then, I used the money I had built up in savings to pay off the last card in one lump sum!!!! :rawk:

Time to start saving up for a rainy day.

shhh!!!!!!! they'll hear!

Ladies and gents...... after years and years and years of stupid mistakes..... today.... I am

DEBT FREE!!!!

No car payment. No student loan. Most importantly, no CREDIT CARD PAYMENT with 24% interest rate. I get to KEEP my next paycheck! :rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk::rawk:

Not giving someone else your money is the best investment in yourself (and your financial freedom: go Delia!!). It is kind of like being able to save all of your tooth fairy money for yourself......

GOOD JOB DELIA to have the discipline and desire to do it!!

Good 'ol snowball method. I've used that to pay down most of my stuff.

Hey, if all you have is the house payment are you considered debt free?

Technically no, but I would say yes.

Ahem....you are not helping with my loan request telling Delia stuff like this. What happened to the age old standard of spending money irresponsibility and loaning your worthless friends money they will likely never pay back?

I know those empty balance credit cards are just driving you crazy Delia. I saw some killer deals at Frys you may want to think about...

When you look at your statement (who looks at those anyway?!), if you see SOME of your money going to the bank and the other (usually much smaller) amount going to your principal, then, nope, still in debt. :)

You are paying someone else to use their money. No way around it, it's debt. GRR.

I hate it just as much as you. So don't move until it's paid off. :pirate:

As a side note, a huge congrats, girl. I don't know ya, but it's one of the MOST ATTRACTIVE qualities for me when dating. A woman on top of her finances is up there with...

1. Being hot.
2. Being in love with flying.
3. Asking me to go on motorcycle trips.
4. Having food on the supper table.
5. And the like. :D

Congrats!
