Something big happening at Southwest...

One of the unpleasant side effects of charging for bags is that it will result in more carry-ons and less space for them. When everyone starts to bring their bags on, unless you have the new larger overhead bins, bag space will quickly run out on full flights. Boarding last will make you that passenger who has to hunt for non-existent overhead space. They probably had to make this decision, though, as they drift closer to everyone else and further from their LCC roots (routes?).

Potty break recently, had a first class passenger passive aggressively try to demonstrate their dominance i guess, by standing up while I’m chatting for a minute with the FA, and try to go to the forward lav. This occasionally happens. They get shut down but then look grumpy. And then i just say “i can take a hint” and go back to the cockpit. Maybe they are afraid that the pilot is out of the cockpit. Maybe they think they are proving something. In the end, they allow me to be well paid for my time, and it really doesn’t matter. Old guy needs to pee for all i care. I’ll be back to clubbing baby seals in a fighter jet next week anyway, something he will never get to do in his life.
God forbid your 3.7 minute break on a 6 hour flight is extended to 5.1 minutes because you dared to chat with one of your coworkers.

People are crazy.

This already happens. If you’re C group just expect to gate check….for free I guess. So there’s that.

You’re better than me. I’d have to stretch these short legs a little longer now. As much as I miss pax flying I don't miss some people’s need to be in control of every situation.

Apparently, United doesn't seem to think there is any saving this situation and is going to revert to the 1990s method it doing their own catering sans vendors at SFO. That is a fantastic idea and not what I'd expected. Actually a great solution and creates mainline jobs that don't face passengers or give you cancer as fast. Sucks for the pax, a win for SFO employees. No idea what the target date is.

So the Southwest issues led to United bringing catering in house? Interesting.
