Somebody else was found.

I am sure there are some who do expect those things, and like you say, obviously student loan forgiveness is an issue being discussed (one which I, btw, don't agree with). But I don't think that is representative of the whole of ours (and younger) generations. There are still motivated hard workers out there who aren't content to just be bailed out of all their bad times. However I'd say that the reality of employment benefits aren't what they used to be. The reality of being a first time home buyer isn't what it used to be. And of course the incredible qualifications creep for employment has turned a college degree into a near requirement for most jobs with any sort of benefits or stability. That last point is one reason why so many kids these days are getting into so much college debt. It's an expectation that they go, regardless of personal interest or even applicability to their job field. And the costs for education continue to skyrocket. It also means that the advantages that a college grad once had are now very diluted, so the return on investment (aside from the pure return of an education in of itself) is lower IMO.

They still don’t, and I don’t blame them.

FUPM.

Really? So how are they paying bills? Stuff ain't free.

Oh wait that's right, I got a free loader who hasn't paid rent for 3.1 months and in just 6 more days, 4.1 months, making me down 11 grand.

Welcome to the new America, the eff you country. You got that part of FUPM correct. Except I'm still waiting for the PM part from my freeloader.

I love how triggered cuckservatives get when it comes to the “labor shortage.” I’m glad people are realizing what they’re worth, and companies that don’t recognize that will continue to suffer.

Good.

Cuckervatives? Is that like DimocRATS?

How long they gonna sit home being unpaid? This is America. They ain't starving.

I'll say it. It's the work from home model that has bolstered them. Now with both people at home, one can afford not to work. Changes the dynamics of everything. Force people back to the office and watch things change.

Yeah, if you think it’s only because people want to work at home. Well. I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

You quit your job and now have zero income.

House payment, electric, gas, trash, sewage, water, food, cars, gas, other bills, and debt.

Who. Is. Paying. For. All. That?

Get a real estate agent. Put the house on the market. Tell her she has to move out by a certain date, because you're selling. Then either sell the house, or take it off the market when she moves out. And then get a new tenant.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that unemployment peaked in April 2020 and has been declining steadily since. So the narrative that people are living off government assistance just doesn’t compute.

For years the attitude was “If you don’t like this job, then get a different/ better one.” Well, guess what - some people have done just that. I even know someone that is ten years active duty, currently the rank of E-7, and they’re throwing in the towel. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze as they say. Deployments, family hardships, wage gap between their civilian friends… it just isn’t worth it for them to re-enlist, and that individual is a hard core conservative. They’re leaving the military and going right back to the field they worked in before the military - except they’ll be 10 years behind their peers that stayed in place.

Didn’t you have an engineering job prior to aviation?

Yes I did. Not sure why you bringing that job up.

I still think this was a result of the ridiculous amount of money we threw at literally EVERYONE. The only ones who should have gotten stimulus money are the people who actually lost their jobs in the pandemic. Restaurants, hotels, public stuff that came to a halt at the start of the pandemic. Airlines too, since no one was traveling.

Why did you leave the engineering field?

That was supposed to be a backup only.

Sept 2001 I was a HS senior with apps ready for Embry Riddle in FL, Jacksonville Univ (Comair academy), and Florida Tech. About a week later there were thousands of layoffs in the airline industry. Many pilots were unemployed. Wanting to avoid getting stuck with only a BS in Aviation Science and nothing to fall back on, I ended up applying and getting into UMich’s engineering program.

Got the PPL and built some hours in summer breaks. Graduated, got engineering job, and then instrument rating + commercial multi. This was on weekends mostly during the engineering job. Did 1 yr, then to jetU, then to a regional.

One thing I've never heard him mention is Bigfoot.

The dogpiling here does get a bit tedious. Most "salt of the earth" or whatever Conservative (big C) people I know are fundamentally decent human beings who don't think that Hillary feasts on children, or whatever other tendentious nonsense. All of this sound and fury signifying nothing applies as much to the supposed Left as the equally imaginary Right. There are a lot of pretty-obvious Trump supporters I could live next to with no problem as individual humans (however radically misguided they may be about politics). But everyone is cocked and loaded to take offense, and I don't know what you do about that.

Which is not to say that it's all even. Their support for him and what he represents is a clear and present danger to the Republic (the same Republic they seem to think they love so much), but in 90% of the cases, it's not malfeasant. They observe the norms and strictures of civilized humans just like the rest of us, in their day-to-day lives. If your kid was hurt, they'd help. They wouldn't steal from you, even given the opportunity. They'd pull you out of a ditch, even if you had a Biden sticker on your car. And AFAICT, the same is true of the "radical leftists", for the most part (they'd probably be less good at it!). I mean sure, some coddled poopyhead clown who went to Evergreen and throws bricks through windows because that somehow sticks it to The Man wouldn't help their "Enemy", just as some jackass who "rolls coal" is unlikely to stop and think about anyone but themselves. But most of us, most of the time, are decent, kind people. The capital "P" Problem is that we've allowed ourselves to be convinced that we (and They) aren't. But we are, or at least we have that capacity. We should act like it.

It makes me suspect that a lot of people not returning to work are being supported by a spouse or decided to become a stay at home parent; or they were relatively old and decided to just retire. And of all the deaths from the Pandemic have certainly put a dent in the labor pool. But probably the biggest reason so many businesses are struggling to hire is just how quickly the recovery from the Covid-induced recession has been happening, compared to previous downturns. I never figured this would happen, I thought the Pandemic would cause a repeat of the 1930s.

I mean with all the stimulus packages, most of the money did go to people who lost their jobs, with the expanded unemployment insurance. Although it's true that the $3,400 in stimulus checks everyone (under a certain income cap) received is a lot compared to the stimuli from previous recession, it was still a small portion of the total stimulus packages. Most of the funding was for bailouts/ Paycheck Protection Program, expanded unemployment, etc. While not perfect the stimulus packages did a very good job of staving off a full-blown Depression and insulating most people from the full effects of the downturn; and set us up for a strong, rapid recovery. I think this is much preferable to what happened after the 2008 recession, when we had a slower recovery and unemployment remained high for several years.

I sympathize with You... I have maaaaany Lib friends. They visit Me all the time. I even have one guy Who plays His favorite transgender rapper named Tu Flaps. He brings His CD over sometimes for everyone to listen. I understand most Dem voters don't really know Biden and they made their decision based off emotions which is perfectly fine with Me. My greatest concern was that they remained psychologically stable after reading those "horrible Twitter posts from that meanie" (in Bugs Bunny voice) In return they listen to enlightening tales told by Me in front of My fireplace... Their favorite one I still remember like yesterday : A traveling salesman was driving across the country when he saw a sign on the side of the road advertising Democrat Kittens For Sale. He thought that was unusual so on his return trip, when he saw the sign it was changed to REPUBLICAN Kittens For Sale, He pulled over and asked the kid why the sign was changed. "Well mister, the first sign was when the kittens were very young their eyes were closed.... but now, the kittens are older and they have their eyes open". Winston Churchill put it best “anyone who was not a liberal at 20 years of age had no heart.... while anyone who was still a liberal at 40 had no head.” they love that story... For now I will leave You with this finely crafted statement from scriptures to set the tone for this lovely evening.... “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of a fool to the left.” Ecclesiastes 10:2. Goood niiiiight.....

The stimulus checks should have been a lot more targeted. Many of those who got them did not in any way need them. Eviction moratorium/mortgage forbearance should have ended a long time ago. That part just resulted in passing the buck to other folks who often couldn't afford it either.
