Some good new & some bad news!

Oh man, you wouldn't want to hear my number then. In my defense it was usually due to me sticking up for other people being picked on. There is NO place for that at all. I wouldn't stand for it then and I won't stand for it now.

**I mean hurtful, mean picking on...not the good natured ribbing prevelant amongst friends, in real life or on JC**

Somehow I'm not surprised.....;)

Thank you for your input. I thought 5 times at his age was very high, but not being a guy I wasn't entirely sure. My son is 19 and I don't think he's ever raised his hands to anyone. My ex-husband may have a couple of times, but he's 54. I doubt my Dad and brother have used their fists. My BF who's in his mid-50's told me he's used his fists 3 times in his life. (I have to admit, I was shocked at that, and a little turned on---lol). ;)

I think it depends on a lot of things. Personally, I think every man should have been in one fight when they were young. Most times, communication disolves escalating situations. However, it's very worthwhile for a man to know he can turn to fight rather than flight.

I don't like fighting (well, maybe in hockey). But I do know if the situation requires, I can stand up for myself and those important to me with physical action. It's not violence... It's defense.

I grew up on Chicago's south side, which isn't rough, but also not a walk in the park. A bunch of Irish Catholic testosterone-filled teenagers running amok, you better believe fists would fly once in a while.

Now, once you get out of high school, if you're resulting to trading blows to solve problems, you need a major overhaul on your social skills.

Disregard everything I've said above if we're talking about hockey. I might not be big, but when I am playing hockey I get physical and am not afraid to drop the gloves. However, there is a difference here... Hockey has a code to follow if you're going to trade blows.

Obviously, a person (male and female) should know how to defend themselves. As you said, though, if you resort to blows to solve problems when you're older......you most definitely need a major overhaul.

Oh and hockey, man that is a testosterone-fueled sport. I LOVED watching games when I was a teen.....:rawk:

I talked to a shrink once (I had 13 broken bones plus all the ribs on the left side - that's why I couldn't run away from this guy or otherwise leave the room) and this head shrinker came in to see if I had problems. Pretty much the guy sat in a chair and expected me to talk about stuff...why Daddy didn't hug me enough,
You should have told him "how the heck do you think I got all these broken ribs ....... that man can hug!"
