Some FSDO/TSA Advice if possible

so update:

This is exactly what happened. They kicked the instrument back (checkride over 2 months ago) and the examiner keeps telling me he still doesn't have it (FSDO is telling me he's giving me crap because they sent it back to him over a month ago).

I have been to the FSDO and did an 8710 to change citizenship, they took my private and gave me a temp. Now, they gave me a temp without an instrument rating (since they hadn't officially received my instrument from iacra) and my temp instrument. My private temp now is dated 3/25, my instrument temp is dated 2/5 and I just got my comm yesterday dated 4/10.

I am seriously thinking I have to wait for the instrument to get back to the examiner, then he will resubmit, then the comm will get kicked back because it has instrument in the application, so I have to wait another 2-3 months for that.

And to top it off I'm getting my multi sometime in the next two weeks, so that's another kickback :(

I will have to wait for my seaplane at jack browns, I don't want another kickback!!!!!!!!!!

I can honestly say that I have never heard of somebody having three kickbacks in the system at once. Best of luck.

Well, theoretically I should have stopped my commercial, waited for the instrument to go through, then go on.

So basically my commercial is going in as Comm + Instrument. They are gonna look at it and go.. Hmm, he never did his instrument, send it back.

Then my multi will arrive a week later and they will go: Hmm, he never did his single engine initial, how did he do a multi addon, send it back.

at least that's the worst case scenario. We'll see! if they all get kicked back it'll be 3 months before I have the licenses in my hand. I got my instrument 2 months ago and it still hasn't even hit the hands of the examiner as a kickback

Hello, everyone

Ok so I'll get to it: I started my private training when I was still only a Permanent Resident (Green Card) so naturally I had to jump through all the TSA hoops and whatnot.

Fast forward, now I'm a private pilot blablabla and I recently got my citizenship (we'll just say sometime in 2010).

I assumed the FSDO/FAA/TSA would automatically know this so I didn't fill out a TSA form for my instrument rating and whatnot and went ahead passed the checkride and all and now I'm scared the instrument rating will be invalidated because I never contacted the FSDO to show them my citizenship papers.

Should I call the local FSDO and setup an appointment and change that status or am I worrying over nothing?

I want to do this ASAP because I want to start working on my commercial in about 2-3 weeks after I pass my written

Thanks guys, it's so liberating to finally be a citizen and not have to worry about all the hoops foreigners get to jump through despite having lived here legally for 12 years.

Do you have any friends or relatives who might also be seeking immigration help (green card, perm residency, citizenship)? If so, I can put them in touch with my wife who is an immigration attorney in Tampa (and a damn good one at that!)

not really.. Thanks though

I don't need any immigration help I'm not sure how convoluted what I said was, but I am a US Citizen.

When I started flight training I was simply on a green card and I just never told the FAA about becoming a citizen when I did. I guess the federal government can't communicate with itself (like I thought would happen), it requires a trip to the FSDO wasting my time and getting time off work... go figure!

The thing that irks me the most is: If I say I'm a US Citizen, all I gotta do is show the school my passport or birth cert and I'm good to go, the FAA takes their word. But if I say I'm a permanent resident I go through all this extra stuff, which is you know whatever so they personally look at my stuff.

Now when I say I am no longer that crazy foreigner green card holder I have to show them my citizenship personally? When I give them my green card, they have to check with USCIS (I hope) to see if I'm legit. Why not just check again with USCIS when I put down that I'm a citizen and we're done?

elmetal- first of all, congratulations and welcome to becoming a US citizen

second- if you checked the box on your 8710 saying you're a US Citizen, you should be good to go

third- you can check up on your certificate here http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/

Search for your name and it will show whatever certificates you have been issued. When your instrument rating is processed, it will show up on the website about a week before it gets to your mailbox.

Thanks! It's good to finally be a citizen

If you've never told FAA otherwise.

I got my private as a green card holder and it's kinda like the terrorist list. Once you go in you have to prove your way out which I had to do by going to the FSDO and showing them my documents and everything. Unfortunately this was all after I got my instrument rating, so the IR was already kicked back, says the FSDO. Examiner still maintains that he has received nothing.
IACRA says documents pending.

It should've already been processed a long time ago since it was IACRA. I've called both the Miami and the Orlando FSDO and they both looked and said yep we got the application but it was sent back to the examiner blablablabla I have a feeling it's the examiner who is just being facetious with me

Your examiner is probably being lazy. A similar thing happened with my instrument rating. Didn't use IACRA, but sent in a paper 8710. The paper form had a wrong number in the cross country box. Oklahoma City sent the whole package back to the FSDO, and the FSDO sent it back to the examiner for correction, and the examiner let it sit on his desk for a couple weeks because he forgot what I told him the folks at Oklahoma City told me was wrong with the application. Keep the pressure on the examiner through the FSDO. He may think he can take his sweet time with you, but the FSDO doesn't have to be as patient with him as you do.

Thanks man! I call him at least 2-3 times a week and pester him about it. I gave you 400 dollars and an airplane ride man can't you just get on the computer and resubmit the thing?

I got that (and congrats!) ... I was asking if you had any non-citizen friends/family who might need immigration assistance.

Why not just check again with USCIS when I put down that I'm a citizen and we're done?… Because it is the US Government, and THAT would make too much sense. Welcome to USA. Now you really ARE one of us.

I was in the same situation. I got my Private when I had my Green card and then, I became a Citizen.

To my knowladge, as long as you got your citizenship prior to the start of your Instrument training, you will be fine.

Unfortunately, nope. They needed me to go down to the FSDO and now we're just waiting on the DPE.

I guess all governments really are alike!

Ah, not anymore! Thanks though!
