Soloing after solo time req is met?

So would you guys keep letting your student do solo flights even after they have met the solo requirements for the rating? Time for them to just do the checkride or should the CFI keep signing them off to get them more experience?

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't have a problem with additional solo time, assuming they are pretty much ready for the checkride. I would push them to get finished up though and not just keep soloing on your endorsement. They would have to show some forward progress towards getting the license.

Not sure if it's your situation, but, an occasional guy doesn't really give a rip about the PPL. He just wants to fly around by himself and bore holes in the sky. Maybe someday he'll go for it.

If that guy is safe, I'd have no problem signing him off every 90 days.

I ran into a couple situations like this while flight instructing.
Just make sure you or somebody else at the airport can keep some tabs on them. It wasn't a problem when we had students who would just rent from the flight school because the cute desk girl would check the winds and make sure everything was good. But when they had their own airplane that was a different story. I would always have them either call me or the flight school prior to any flying. I made sure it was very clear and that they took this very seriously.

i make it very clear what my expectations are when students are authorized to solo. in general, they are all moving forward to the ticket, but i have absolutely no problem with them going into the checkride with 10+ hours of solo because they wanted to practice a little bit more or do another cross country.

Why not a recreational cert for this situation?
