Solo international vacation

Is it normal to have to take your vacation if your at the bottom of the list whenever there is an opening?

Europe is too cold this time of year, so is Japan.

I did a 10 day solo vacation to Bali, Indonesia in 1997. Had a great time. Went mountain biking in the rice fields; hiked up the tallest mountain ( volcano ) on the island; SCUBA dived on a sunken WW II wreck off the northeast coast; lazed on the beach; took in the cultural shows at night in Ubud. Cost all of $350 for ten days ( excluding air fare ).

Avoid Kuta, bunch of drunk Aussies there. Spent one night there and then headed up to Ubud. Had my own villa in the rice patties with breakfast served on the porch in the morning. Cost me $9.50/night. Spent another a few days at a beach motel in Sanur.

so far the best advice in my opinion, only thing Bali is not that cheap anymore.

oh and I would rent a scooter..

My recommendation is to venture away from the tourist areas. Always loved the out of the way places.

Way back when, when I was living in Europe (mid 80's)- I was waiting for the ferry crossing between Dover, England and Oostende Belguim. I was on a bike, a couple rode up, he was from New Zealand and his wife was from Germany. They were half way through a 3 year vacation on a motorcycle. They were planning on touring Europe that summer and then drive down through Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Isreal, Egypt and be in Tunisia by December. They planned on staying there a month or so and then drive around the African continent. Man I was so envious.

I couldn't agree more. If you want to be a tourist, go to Vegas or Disney World or something.

If you want to have an adventure, meet awesome people, learn something new about the world, and make lifelong memories, get off the beaten path.
