SoCal’s Forecast Sounds Like Fun 2/15/2021

I think you're hyper vigilant regarding anything you consider offensive, in other words you go looking for it. As far as your philosophy I think it's flawed because of human nature. The only way socialism would work is if 100% of the population agreed, but human nature being what it is means that some will try to take advantage to improve their life, some by crime some by politics. It leads directly to communism, dictatorship and a police state so the folks that weren't honest in their allegiance to the socialist ideal can continue to oppress. This is the only country in modern history that has made a democratic republic work. But that's fine, topple the statues, burn the libraries, if we erase our history it'll be easier for us to forget. Problem is if you erase the past our future generations are almost guaranteed to repeat it. I've told you before I harbor no ill will, all I get in return is nonsense.

Yeah, I just don't believe in the red scare socialism boogeyman.

I'll bet there are more than ten things you've done today that are zomg socialism, so unless the next time your house is on fire you turn away the fire department, or you've never called the police in your life, or driven on a road, then things are already more shades of gray than the black and white you're afraid of.

You're right. I've been paying taxes since I got my first job at 15 years old almost 35 years ago. I've only needed the emergency response services a couple of times, and I was happy they were available. If you own a home and work in California you should understand. I suppose it's like people that grow up in places like Hawaii, New York or San Fransisco understand it's expensive but that's just how it is so we adapt, but it's all relative. Some kid in Kansas might think $100K is enough to retire, and maybe it is there, but where you and I live that's a nice boost not a retirement fund.

Right. Oh no, there's a breeze. Quick, do rolling power outages before we create a wildfire!

Look what’s happening in Texas right now, dude.

I know you think it’s great because you “visited” a few times.

It isn’t.

25 years living in Houston (born and raised there). It’s just so awesome when you reach that point in late summer where it has been 100+ days since the heat index was less than 100 degrees.

But at least the humidity sucks as well! And the city is flat. And ugly. And way too much sprawl. Nothing to do at all if you’re into outdoor activities (which you couldn’t anyways because it’s hotter than the surface of the Sun).

Nope. You can have it bro.

I know it looks bad now, but fortunately, prominent members of Texas' Congressional delegation are very concerned with improving electrical infrastructure:

I'm confident the state will be in good hands. Clearly top Texas elected officials are prepared to solve these problems, rather than focus on internet trolling instead of governing.

I'd take the DFW area over Houston, but still, bring it on. I was born and spent the first 8 yrs in a place that gets very muggy+humid+hot. I'm okay with heat so as long as the air conditioning works inside. :)
Sad to see what's happening right now but to be fair, this storm was one of a kind type thing.

I suggest you might want to spend a summer in the San Fernando Valley in a house with no A/C. I think we hit 121 last summer. I'll let you borrow a fan.

I spent 4 years in the Inland Empire without a day of air conditioning.

And I’ve lived in @Apophis ‘s hometown for 7 years and while I disagree that Texas and Houston suck, I would gladly take august in southern CA over august in Houston.

I mean, sort of. But generation plants started going out Sunday night when temps weren’t much below the long term low for February.

But don’t let this stop you from quitting your complaining, moving here and driving up my home price. Don’t worry about power going out for 12hrs every summer when it gets above 90 for the first time, it’s totally ok.

If life has taught me anything it's that these tweets constitute the sole root cause haha.

Ew. Gross.

Then again, as a native Houstonian, I am pre programmed to hate anything and everything DFW.

The last time I was there was for my ATPCTP, which the company sent me to L3/Harris in Arlington to complete.

My most vivid memory was having food poisoning so bad the night before my last sim session, stuff was coming out of every orifice.

And that’s basically what my body thinks about the DFW area

Fair enough, I've never visited the apparent infernal region where @Apophis resides. I'm fairly certain (other than Fallbrook) no place is perfect with regards to the weather.

Haven’t you had ur house in the valley for 25+ years? That means your mortgage is like $800 a month and you have $1 million in equity. Go get an AC ya cheap ass!

August anywhere is just awful :p

Scandinavia has some nice summers, but that’s kinda far from LA County

20 years. $1180/month. I replaced the swamp cooler a couple of years ago with an oversized unit that cracked a window the first time I turned it on with all of the windows and doors closed, it works great as long as the humidity is low (most of the summer) and I open lots of windows. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have sell to settle my divorce. Not sure where I'll go but I have zero family in California and the only things keeping me here are the house and my job and to be honest I don't really like either. Maybe I'll head east. Who knows?
