Soaring over Nebraska

This weekend I had the opportunity to take my first glider flight. I went up with the club in Blair, Nebraska near Omaha. What an experience! I'm hooked. Right after I get my skydiving license I'll be moving on to gliding I think...too many aerial activities to get addicted to!

As for details on the pictures....

The tow plane is a Piper Pawnee.

The glider is a Blanik L-13.

I'm the guy in the green shirt and baseball cap.

The guy riding in the back of the truck is a friend from college, Phil. Phil lived in the Czech Republic for a year, home of the Blanik glider. He says he saw them all over the place.

The high performance sailplane is Bert's (my instructor's) personal plane. He grew up in Switzerland and learned to fly gliders when he was 14. Now he's a United Airlines 757/767 FO. He's also the DPE I send most of my students to. Really an amazing guy and amazing pilot.
