So you're a first officer (Part 2?)

You're an ACM and the captain leaves the flight and has the right seater move to the left seat, and you take the right seat. Amidst this shift, you're the only one controlling the a/c

How do you log it? ;)

So why is the captain leaving again?

to take a whiz?.... you gonna take the time to log .06 in your book..

if so log it as PIC... no one will care

I would remind the Captain that it's against company policy to switch seats in flight.

Because he has some work to do. And that's not a euphemism.

I would remind the Captain that it's against company policy to switch seats in flight.

Takes some stones to tell your chief pilot what company policy is or isn't.

Let's pretend it's the chief for the sake of the argument

But to be fair, you changed the story by taking out the chief pilot and that the SIC was also a CA.;)

let's say for the sake of argument that this situation would ever come up... ever...

Captain shouldn't be gone that long anyway...

If you really want to log that little amount of PIC time in your book then knock yourself out.. nobody and their brother is going to give two camel knuckles about it.

And no.. You're not PIC rated in that aircraft... so it's not legit,
but again, even if you were, the average person would just log the entire flight as it was intended when you took off. (but by all means.. if it means that much to you)

Sure it's not PIC (you didn't sign for the aircraft), but what about SIC?

Or how about "If you sign for an airplane, there's no reason to go grab a seat in the back for 90 minutes" :)

Dumbest topic ever.

Did the CA die? Incapacitated? That's the only reason the FO would (or should) switch seats (and even then they might not).

I'd still tell him that it's against company policy. Just because he's the CP, doesn't mean nothin' when policy and procedure is concerned. He's not above the law, and cannot arbitrarily change them.

Every time I've been in the jumpseat and the captain went back for a piss, I've taken the captain's seat and the FO has stayed put.

Now I don't put on the belts and readjust the captain's seat or "strap on" the airplane in any way. I just sit there sideways and wait for the captain to get back before getting the jumpseat back out.

If it's a plane with a jumpseat that has to be moved to get to the door, sure. But if it's something that has an out of the way jumpseat, I really don't see any reason to get up and sit in the vacant seat.

In your scenario there is nobody at the controls for a period of time, so no bueno right there.

And the ACM is the last to move and therefore would never be at the controls by himself.

whats an ACM?

why would seats be traded in flight?

I have a feeling this thread is not a serious question...

my experience: on part 91 legs, when im flying i log PIC whether its form the left or right seat since i have a type rating.

Oh no it's a very serious question but I'm trying to be vague for a few specific reasons, and unfortunately the clarity of the story is what's being misunderstood (and that's my fault, sorry).

Sounds to me like this actually happened. I can understand your reluctance to post more details. The ACM should never be sitting in a control seat. The FO should never be swapping seats. (Unless of course your Ops manual allows it. Most carriers don't though.)

No, you can't log PIC (unless you happen to be typed in the aircraft).
No, you can't log SIC because you're not qualified to do that either, see 61.51 (Logging SIC time) and 61.55 (SIC Qualifications)

...but, could you log "dual" assuming the guy in the other seat is qualified to instruct? Hmmmm......
