I agree with everything you said, and appreciate the perspective of a guy who saw all of that stuff. That's not just boilerplate, I do. But I think it also might be worth considering what the real, quantifiable difference is between the draftees in the 60s and the "volunteers" of the "aughts". When the only (statistically likely...hi Dough and other Exceptions!) upwards mobility in a society is through Service (or, ok, becoming a Banksta Thief Scumbag), is it really "voluntary", anymore?
