I always assumed it was an unoriginal colloquialism meaning a small plane with the ability to go over puddles and not through them...
according the leading aviation experts (youtube), it's a bush term meaning raising the nose wheel just before standing water and "jumping" the puddles. I guess specifically referring to short dirt unimproved strips, and the intent of keeping water out of the engine, and getting the mains bogged down in the doo-doo butter.
Watch at 15:10 you can see what seems like expert execution via strut mounted go pro, raising just the nose if the water will pass between the mains, and a small hop if they'll pass into muck. Seems like a neat trick to avoid swerving in tight places or span-wise water...I'll have to try it the next time i'm flying the caravan in Botswana. Maybe EVERYONE knows that, but I guess I never put it together. Oh, and a hoot at 24:10 when they're bondo'ing the wing. It won't be winning an academy award, Oscar, or Sundance, but it's easy watching. Happy medium for me between only cheering for everyone to die on the repo show, the gayness of Top Gun, and being able to stomach it while eating but not actually miss it if god forbid I have to get out of bed today and do something...
