So I think I have taken my last flight for a long time

They don't ask frequent fliers to write the security rules though. Hell, that would be like letting a bunch of pilots run an airline! Who on earth would make THAT mistake?

Its all about the money. Chertoff (sp) has a piece of the company that produces the scanners. More privatization of government functions.
While you are right that there's some...well, I don't know what to call it, going on, ``privatization'' is the wrong term. A lot of what our government does it does through contracting: we're death on the appearance of big government (ARRR DEM LAZY FEDERAL WERKERS TURK AR JARBZ!) but as long as a large no-bid contract is handed out for purposes of doing the exact same thing that Federal workers could do for cheaper and with less oversight, we're comfortable with that (ARR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IZ STIMULATING ZE ECONOMY! LOOK AT MAH DIVIDENDS!).

I read somewhere that given the amount of standing-around we do in air travel, we're no faster now than the Constellation days. And we do it without the class factor...
