I don't think its the content that isn't funny. You're right. It has always been low brow, sophomoric comedy. The difference is the people doing it just aren't funny.I giggled. It's absurdity in the form of skit comedy. Even the best SNL skits are pretty thin on content. Everyone loved "cowbell" with Walken, but really, was there anything particularly sophisticated or nuanced there? Even the Wayne's World skits were incredibly low brow. But that's why people watch SNL: it's mindless escapism.
