slide film. i took a photography class fall 03 for some world cultures credits. i ended up liking shooting slide film so much that i talked it up and ended up with 5 or 6 rolls that my aunt and sarah gave me. i shot up about half of one when i went flying the other day, but other than that, my shutter's been silent. i'm gonna try to take some pictures of that POS rolling in tonight though. trying to weigh that against studying for my CFI ride....decisions

Forgive me for sounding ignorant, but what exactly is slide film? Kind of sounds expensive. And go shoot some pics, studying is overated anyways!!

Indeed expensive!

That's why I'd go all-digital these days. C'mon, after "wasting" lots of money on film (assuming you're not a pro), owning an EOS10D (if you're a Canon fan like me) pays off, and doesn't hurt in the end.

(oh, and no scanners needed

maybe with the mad bank i'm sure i'll make when (not if
wink.gif
) i get hired in the fall i can afford to buy a D-70. i'm a nikonian thru and thru...no canon for me, though their high end DSLRs are pretty slick.

slide film is kinda expensive. it's also expensive to have processed, except in conjunction with the slide photo class there's a nice lady named wanda in the med school who will process a roll for $5 a pop, which is pretty cheap compared to other places. this is a professional machine, too, as it handles all the photo work for the med/nursing school.

slide film is a PITA to deal with but the image quality is simply breathtaking. it also makes you a better photographer because it's not as forgiving, compared to print film, if you make an error with exposure. eh, i'm rambling....how about those storms tonight? they looked awesome!

edit - remembered i had a few slides lying around that i had scanned at walmart. imagine the same picture with about 10x the color clarity and overall sharpness. i took this down by the train tracks east of 2nd st downtown. i had to remove an abandoned 40oz from my shot here

i love GF.

They were awesome. The best was around 9:45 when they were east of town and the lighting was constantly flashing and lighting up the eastern sky. It was some cool stuff.

Wow, $5 is cheap.

That's exactly why I wouldn't touch film, lol.
Yeah, I agree that it makes you a more careful photographer, but not necessarily better.

It rained, tonight, over there?

Hey, try taking pics of lightning. Talk about "wasted" film, lol. Last week, we had a strong thunderstorm in the NY-Metropolitan area. Out of the 20 or so photos, only two came out with the lightning. Of course, I shouldn't be complaining with my A80's slowest shutter speed of 15 sec. Sucks...

Anyway, g'night.

Hey Grant,

That's a pretty nice photo. Just increasing the contrast a bit would make it a lot prettier.

You don't happen to frequent trekearth.com or treklens.com, do you?

that's a walmart scan, dude. remember: college = poor. the slide is considerably better than that scan. all my slides are considerably better than their scanned brethren.

..and...nope. never ever heard of either of those sites. i used to frequent the nikonians.org board and photo.net but i've just been too swamped this semester to give much time to one of my favorite hobbies. i took 18 credits ALONG with CFI - i don't recommend you ever do this, my semester was ass.

btw...thanks for the compliment

if you need world cultures credits and you're somewhat serious about film photography, i highly recommend taking art 260, color photography. if you enjoy that enough you can move on to black & white photo, which is actually a fall-spring course but also involves going into the darkroom and processing your own work. i wish it'd fit into my schedule but it didn't

Oops, lol, sorry about that man. Now that I read my reply, it seems a bit condescending. Not the case at all.

Thanks! I'll keep it in mind;seems like a nice and fun one to take.

BTW, you took the 18 credits because you chose to, or because you really had to?

Ha, that is just a little breeze around here. Funny thing is, we are the windiest state in the U.S. but only a couple Wind Turbines currently running. I KNOW this would be a good investment, just costs so much to set up.

I agree. Set all the windmills out here and use it up. No one is in a hurry to live here anyways...

This state sells plenty to Minneapolis during the summer. There is a market for this, but wind turbines cost around a million a piece. So a return on investment would take a while.

I'll see what I can do about a woman for ya. Last night was a blast, had way to much to drink, but I can say I woke up in my own bed!! I was on a party bus last night that ended up at the El Rocco. After the bar closed, I just hopped on a bus and it ended up being the wrong one. It was a bachelorette party and they thought I was the stripper. I had to say "please ladies, keep your hands off" a couple times. We went back to their place and had a few more drinks. One of the girls there was nice enough to give me a ride home. All in all, it was a crazy fun night.
