<DD>A small plane was forced to make an emergency landing on the NJ Turnpike in Burlington County on February 1, 2010.

</DL>No one was injured when a single-engine aircraft made an emergency landing on the New Jersey Turnpike, CBS 2 HD has learned.

The plane landed in the northbound lanes in Cherry Hill Monday morning, about two miles south from Interchange 4, Turnpike Authority spokesman Joe Orlando said.

Orlando says two people were aboard the aircraft. Orlando says officials believe the plane was handling traffic reports for a Philadelphia radio and TV station.

Orlando says police want to get the plane off to the side of the turnpike and it will be loaded onto a truck.

Both northbound lanes of the Turnpike have been closed while State Police clear the scene.

One of the traffic planes I used to fly, 733BR, ran out of gas twice in its career when working traffic duties. Once in '93-ish over Mesa, AZ, where it landed in a field on Baseline and Arizona Ave (or McQueen, can't remember exactly which). It was repaired and transferred to TUS, where it ran out of gas again in '08 and landed on a golf course.

The MSNBC story said the 152 included a pilot and two passengers. Unless the guy takes his wife and kid up to do the traffic, I think not.

Ridiculous. There are bout 3 airports in a 5NM range from where he landed... However, I grew up rather close to there. Lol. Exit 4 was my exit off the turnpike. :)

Then you would know the toll for the exit, maximum change as they had lost the ticket...

Can't imagine being a driver when they landed. Somewhere there was a State Trooper Cam got a T-6 landing on the highway in front of him. Anyone got a link to that one?

The nerve! How could he endanger people and property!? It was his choice to fly, not the people on the turnpike.

:sarcasm:

Airplane is based at PNE. The folks around the FBO here are saying they got a low oil pressure indication.

They're baffled as to why they didn't try to fly it on to an airport as well.

Edit: I see it's already been mentioned in the article posted by TheresaPilot

Yeah, hard to say for sure what I would've done because I wasn't there. But with only a low pressure indication and (assuming) no change in temp, I think I might have climbed a bit while circling the turnpike and then made a break for the closest field. I'd hate to see a motorist end up dead because I decided to land on the highway for what turned out to be a broken oil pressure sensor.

Saw this on the news this morning. Glad he landed safely.

My CFI landed a 152 on the Garden State Parkway last year or so. Lost power and was too low to glide to KBLM. I think it is actually one of the incidents that set off the AD for the replacement of the carb in the 152.
