SkyWest will have huge biggest expansion ever in 2007

My understanding is that if you don't have the mins, even if by a small margin, you will be cordially asked to come back when you have them.

Re: Delta orders 60 -900's

That's some crystal ball you've got there. Mind posting (or PM'ing) a source?

No crystal ball needed. If I didn't mind posting my source, don't you think it would have already been up? No offense.

Does anybody know what about the 100 instrument hours they require?
They are kind of hard to build if you instruct and don't see much actual.
Take a situation of 20 FTD, 20 actual and 40 hood time (total 70), should I go and rent a plane for 30 hours with a safety pilot, or is this requirement a little more lenient?

None taken, but considering that it's a pretty important matter, I guess you shouldn't take any offense when I chalk this up as just another B.S. anonymous internet "sure thing". I guess I expected better from you.

I am kind of wondering about that too. From their website:

Flight Experience:
1,000 - hours total time
100 - hours multi engine
100 - hours instrument (Max 20 hours simulator)
Recency of experience will be considered

So to me, this means 20 hours in a simulator and then 80 hours of actual IMC time and simulated (hood) time combined. Could be 20 in sim +80 of hood, or 20 in sim plus 40 actual + 40 hood.

Can anyone else confirm?

If I had 950/100/100 with a fair amount of time recently, I would apply. They do have that recency of experience line there.

The 1000/100/100 does seem a bit rediculous considering how much they say they are expanding. I am wondering if these times will be coming down at all in the next few months?

Sorry-musta been that time of the month for me.

Sorta like when one of the oldtimers says "Quit you're whining. I was only making $14 an hour in the Jetstream!" Then you point out that was like 1987 and show them what inflation has done.....

Maybe not the best argument:
$14 in 1987 is almost $25 in 2006 dollars.
Guys then were making about 18K flying the B99/J31s, when converted to modern rates that would equal $32K. Not many (OK none) regionals are hiring at 32K today, are they? If you convert the current pay of 20K to 1987 dollars is approx $11,000.

On the mainline side, guys topping 200K in 1987 would be making $354K today. This industry has much bigger problems than fuel cost. These figures are only COLA adjustments not even raises! Pay has not kept up with inflation, at all.

Dollar for dollar, the guy making $14/hr in 1987 was making more to fly a Jetstream than newhires in 2007 in a CRJ.

Good post..... sad though. People can get hired to fly a CRJ right out of flight school now too---its my understanding that you used to have to have a little experience before you could fly a J-31 back in "the day" right?

Personally I think that partly was because of the quick upgrade times, they needed people who could upgrade quickly. I talked to a now-C421 corporate pilot who upgraded @ ASA within 6 months of getting hired pre-9/11.

Not really. Upgrade times were still in the 2+ year range. It was mainly because it was demanding flying, meaning no autopilot or GPS/FMS. None of this gear up, AP on, hiding behind the bulletproof door garbage.

That's a good point. It certainly was "harder" flying back then. The RJ pilots of nowadays certainly have it easy, in terms of work environment.

Incidentally, I found this guy's page via a link from meritflyer:

Instructing/Charter (?) until 1994, left @ 3000 TT
Skywest Metro FO 94-96 ($15k/yr = $20.5k/yr now)
Skywest Bro CA 97-00
NWA 727 FO 00-02

Re: SkyWest will huge biggest expansion ever in 2007

Some of you really have hard-ons for SKW.

No protection there!

Ya think that might be because some of us work there, and may have a bit more experience with the airline than you?

That was actually my point. Not worded well, but that was it. Some of the guys I've talked to are saying "Quit yur bitchin. You're making more now than I was back in the 80s on the Jetstream" which isn't true. The FO pay (and CA pay) at this airline SERIOUSLY needs to come up if we want to attract more than 500 hour wonders. The main reason I'm here is I don't have to commute, I can live at home where my family is, and COL is dirt cheap here. Take those away, and I'm at XJT in a heartbeat instead.

Re: SkyWest will huge biggest expansion ever in 2007

I just want to know which gang is bigger on here. SKYW or XJT? And what're your gang signs?

:)

Really, I don't think there's many people drinking too much of the Skywest coolaid. I just don't like it when outsiders make uniformed accusations without having a clue as to what it's like here.

I beg to differ. These days, I can't seem to find a guy who has an opinion. face to face. When they're behind a computer, its another story.
