Skywest to fly for Airtran

So it's not a true regional feed. It's more like the "alliance" thing or "code share".... passengers will know they're getting on Skywest (not "AirTran operated by Skywest")....

or at least that's how I read it.

AWAC did. Didn't last very long as far as I remember....

This will be different. From the press release...

Seats on these flights will be sold in conjunction with AirTran Airways flights with revenue shared on a pro-rated basis.

SkyWest Airlines will operate five SkyWest branded, 50-seat, Bombardier CRJ200 regional aircraft to and from Milwaukee.
 
Sounds like a creative way to use those -200s that were doing the Midwest flying. I have to say, good move my Skywest management.
 
Yeah thats what I figured. Thats a lot of displacement and then new base moving expenses. A bunch of FAs probably just quit rather than go to ORD, granted given the economy, most probably just went to ORD.

A buddy's girlfriend is an FO in ORD now, was MKE. I believe she said it was because of the base closing. Honestly though, I didn't listen a whole hell of a lot.

I think they are doing it out of desperation. Personally. They have leases to pay on the jets and this is just a way to do that.

Republic did the same, look at the HI operation as well as buying up Frontier and Midwest. As did Mesa and Expressjet, and ACA. Branded operations really don't do so well especially with RJ's.

If anyone can do it however, Skywest can. They have a good product and a great leadership team.
 
Skywest has planes and having the planes operate "at risk" will still bring in some money...At worst Skywest loses some money, at best they make some but at least they don't have airplanes sitting around which they have to make lease payments on.

I think it's the best deal for AirTran....Airtran comes out on top.

Not great for Midwest...Just steeper competition and more seats in an already over-served market.
 
I seriously wonder if it's possible at all now that we've seen a great group like ExpressJet have a go at it and STILL fall short. To me it seems Skywest will lose less $$ flying these things for Air Tran, than they would if the ex-Midwest planes were just parked somewhere collecting desert dust.

If the planes are sitting around the company isn't paying for the gas being burned, per diem for the pilots, paying the luggage guy to drive the missconnect bags, meal vouchers for late flights, MX for use.

I just remember the at risk stuff falling apart at Colgan is all.
