SkyWest Rumor

Hearing from folks at Mother D that some 170s/175s will be operated by SkyWest and will be announced in the next couple of days?

Anyone out in Uncle Jerry land heard about this?

Haven't heard anything on Delta. They announced a contract to fly 18 more for United starting next year.

The story I keep hearing is that United took these aircraft out of Mesa's hands because they failed to live up to promises regarding fuel consumption. It sounded like XJT was in line to get them for their ERJ-side of the house, but Skywest ended up with them because of XJT's unresolved labor issues (despite outranking Skywest in UAX performance). That's the story anyways.

I'm not sure if that's United's decision or if the parent company of SKW and XJT is basically saying uhhh yeah we'll just keep those over here in St George because we can....

If that happens expect a full on melt down at XJT. For years they've been being told "just keep working and..."

Yet Skywest is cancelling upgrades for the rest of the year because they can't hire enough FOs, but get more airplanes.

"Our main line partners are noticing"; I think is what you were looking for...

No aircraft have been taken from Mesa. In fact, rumor around the office is that there are discussions about adding more E175s. Of course that's a rumor someone in the office probably started so who really knows. I tend to wait until I see the aircraft at the hangar before believing anything.

I can't recall the last time we didn't hit our goals with United. Once IAD was up and running well on the Ground Ops side, it's been on automatic over there on that side of SOC.

I can't say I'm aware of any issues with fuel consumption. As far as I hear, United is pretty pleased with our performance.

As southpark would say let me check your privilege...

Mesa didn't get AC taken from them that then didn't already own. They just didn't win the bid on new AC. As far as your Goals with United, I don't know about you guys but the other side of your company is getting tired of being told we are the best out there. Thought we out class you every month on every performance factor...

I'm not sure who performs better. I just know we haven't missed a goal in a while as far as I recall. Not that I pay a lot of attention to it, but it's just that when I do happen to notice it, I don't see anything bad. It's all green on the scorecard.

I don't really know who you guys work for either. The rumors I hear the most are from people on the desk which I put zero stock in. I do chat with a few people outside the DX group that are "tell it like it is" types and they seem to be pretty positive about how UA feels about our operation. I'm a keep your head down and learn everything there is to know about Dispatching kind of guy. I don't pay any attention to performance for other carriers.

Now, I will say that we have a ton of young people flying the E175s and they tend to beg for more fuel than most so it wouldn't be a huge surprise.

Sometimes the "best" carrier doesn't get the planes, either. I've been in commercial aviation for a couple decades now. There is value in spreading the aircraft around to several regionals. That allows you to pit them against each other in these little skirmishes to encourage them to drive down their costs. I know when I was with Mesaba, we outperformed Express at just about every level, but they drove down their costs lower and picked up the first CRJs for NWA.

The only things I know for sure is I start work very early tomorrow and I have lots more to learn. :)

We work for all the same people you do. We are just the right/left arm of skywest inc. As you are the other side. Though on our company portal it shows each carriers D:0, A:14, and CCF against everyone for both DAL, UAL, and AA. You beat us monthly on the DAL side and, use to beat us on the AA side as well. But now that we fly ERJ's on the AA side we for the most part beat you on all 3 metrics each month for both the AA and UAL operations.

Mesa doesn't operate any Delta flights, so I'm not sure what you're seeing there. We're only flying US, AA and UA. I don't think they share OAL performance on our company website, but I may just not have noticed. It's not something I'm concerned about too much. Just one of the perks of being a lowly dispatcher. ;)

Were these new E170/E175's in addition to the 18 that they already have? These could be the brand new 20 or so that United ordered a couple of months ago, or have those already been spoken for? I'm new here by the way, first post..

Who cares it's a regional... They're all gonna shrink as flying shifts back to mainline with the exception of the AA wholly owned.

I'm guessing the airplanes and pilots to fly all that new mainline flying will have to come from somewhere....
