SkyWest or Horizon?

elmetal

Ain't nobody got time for that
Let's say you get this choice today. Either airframe at SkyW, and Horizon.

You have no roots, no houses, no family west of the east coast.

You have no desire to fly a jet (unless it can provide better QOL,sched, base, etc)

You are not chasing the TPIC (not because I don't think it's valuable, I just think it's a pointless chase)

You are not sure where you want to live, but Portland, Austin, Phoenix, Seattle and Denver are on that list.

Which do you pick, and why?

Go where you got the best interview vibe. I'm sure both tried to sell themselves to you, so unless you want to live in any one particular base, it comes down to where you think you'll fit in.

They def both had awesome vibes. Nothing bad to say about either one except Skywest technical was a little tough for me.

I could fit in either one really. They seem very similar but either way I've learned to be very adaptable. I just worry about the future of horizon (and maybe see them getting eagle'd.)

I don't know all the ins and outs of airlines enough to know whether or not they can be cornered like that

Can't say anything about Horizon, but just some info for you at SKW:
On the RJ, PDX and SEA are very senior. PHX is as well, though less so. DEN is mid-level, and IAH is relatively junior.
On the Bro, PDX is middle of the road.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, but whatever you do, move west. I used to live in the midwest, and now that I live in the mountains, I'm never going back.

No doubt. I'm moving west regardless. I'd just like to live in OR is all. Or maybe PHX.

You go to Ameriflight.

I bombed the phone screening pretty hardcore... I got caught kind of off-guard I was on the west coast and woke up at 6am to a phone ringing and before I knew it the guy had me on the phone for 20 minutes unprepared. He said he'd get back in touch but I never heard from him again

1550/650 here no turbine time

^^ right there with ya Gypsy. 3 months ago my plan was amflight for the cool instrument single pilot PIC multi turbine PIC (straight 99 I was told). With that said, especially at a boom like this, I can't waste time because I know seniority is a huge huge deal. Have a former coworker at Skywest who's been there a year, and he couldn't move to a base where a guy in the same class as him is at, and has been for a year. that's how much the number means.

At any rate, I think I'm very very much leaning skywest bro atm. How jr would yall say SBP is? That's a base I would have 0 qualms about living in, at least for 2 years for sure.

Go to Compass! You'll be LAX based. Over half the list there has a flow-through at Delta.

Horizontal and Skywesticles are gonna experience some shrinkage. We have many 200's that are not gonna be replaced.

Ehh, just choose one. You're one of the lucky that actually has a choice.

Now, keep in mind that if you go with (A) you'll occasionally second guess your decision about going to (B) for the duration of your time there.

And vice versa.

Go fly.

I would love to go to compass, but like I mentioned earlier, I bombed the phone screening so that's a non issue.

I think I'm picking the skywest bro. it's the best thing for me right now.
