Skywest or Eagle

Why would a junior regional pilot want to live or commute to MIA? Are the upgrade times there quicker than most do to expansion?
From my friends who work there Im told AE is 3 years to hold a line...

A lot of guys that live there are from there. I spent 4.5 years in South FLA and loved it, I have alot of friends there. I moved back north for my current RJ gig (not Eagle). Not everyone likes Florida, different strokes for diff folks.

I love Miami too. I guess if you are from there it makes sense. If I was still pursing the pilot career eagle in Miami would be my #1 choice too but from someone who isn't from Miami the high cost of living, poor public schools, cultural shock, bad public transit really adds up.

But I agree with you that I tend to see a lot of Miami based pilots for both Eagle and AA and the other airlines based down here are people who are actually from Miami. I guess we are the only people crazy enough to want to live here.

Have you tried Horizon? Seattle is easy getting back to HNL since that was pretty much my commute for Island Air.

The cultural shock is definitely hard for people who move to places that arn't downtown Miami/Miami beach/South Beach. I have a friend who is a 73 F/O for AA out of MIA and he lives in boca which is about an hour drive north. Personally I think that's the best way to do it, find a nice place in FLL/PBI (which would be cheaper I would assume) and make the drive for $10-15 on gas it take the tri-rail for $5.
