Skywest in KASE

Well, in ASE the weather is always changing, so your captain asking for the current winds is the right thing to do. They aren't going to lie to you, if that's what you're getting at. ASE knows exactly what our limitations are, and countless times we've asked about wind and been given an answer that exceeds our limitations. It's the mountains... Things are constantly and quickly changing at any time, any season.

Also, you have your runways mixed up. You were landing 15, and a direct tailwind is 330.

I'm assuming you did monitor your TAS and GS to make sure you were in compliance with your limitations?

Won't lie? I've always found it curious when the winds or RVR is magically where it needs to be exactly when it needs to be.

Curious enough that it always seems like more than a coincidence.

It's not a coincidence. I had a firsthand encounter with this during my freight days. FXE, I'm looking at you. 1/2 a mile, my butt. Just past the FAF, she gave me the real scoop...less than 1/4 mile, and she can't see anything. Thanks. Next time, just tell me I have no hope of getting in. I appreciate the help, but that wasn't one of those times...

Not related to ATC there, but FXE is such a sketchy looking airport. It just has that "illegal stuff goes on here all the time" look to it. Maybe it's just the way it's laid out.

Well, we've sure diverted a lot for all these so called lies! Including yesterday, a total divert nightmare...

Look, I know what you're saying. I think certain times ATC will help out when they can. But when things are trending wrong, they get it and are legit in my experience. Either way, if you're approaching the balked landing decision point in ASE, it's time to use some of that pilot stuff and see what makes sense. Just because ATC clears you to land, it doesn't mean you're legal or safe...

Yeah, I was watching that yesterday and was very happy I didn't have any ASE flights on my desk.

Then again I'm usually happy when I don't have any ASE flights.
