Skywest ERJ vs. B-52

Just got through visiting some friends of ours there. It’s not even cheap anymore, they were showing us a $500k house in their very average neighborhood.

Gross. I haven't looked, but I can only imagine that military BAH out there is totally upside down if that is a typical house.

I was floored. They were telling me about 800k-1 mil houses on the golf course at the edge of town. I love my friends but I think they’re absolutely nuts for this and living in minot is making them more so. I swear to god half of their conversation is complaining about driving and traffic. In a town of 47000 people. I just couldn’t.

I spent about 45 minutes in Minot during a stop on Amtrak's Empire Builder heading west. It was cold. And very windy. And there was a massive blizzard moving up from the south that we managed to just avoid but canceled the next three days worth of trains.

That was enough Minot for me.
Reminds me of a line Harry Chapin used while introducing a song on his live album: “I spent a week there one afternoon.”

Freezing is a reason, not just one. There are numerous others.

OO had us drive by a perfectly good Raddisson so we could...stay at the waterpark. I wish I was making it up.

Well, I've stayed at just about every HoliDome in the upper mid-west. Nothing like doing a weekend trip in the winter, listening to hundreds of kids in the pool, dodging intoxicated parents, while you marinate for 15+ hours in a miasma of chlorine vapor.

I had that album CD for years. I think it's an mp3 on a hard drive somewhere now.
Live album is good, but the in-person shows were where he really shone. Saw him four times in three years. Last time was 1/2 year before he died in a car crash. :(

Heh. We got there from Seattle via empire builder. Unfortunately this time of year it’s dark for a lot of the best scenery, and i couldn’t really abandon the sleeping kid to go watch the sun rise as we went through the Rockies.
