Rumor mill over on the DALPA forums is talking about a September 1st announcement of an acquisition or merger with Comair.

Personally? I have no idea, but it's a bigger potential mess than most people realize, especially when you add in fine folks like JC Lawson of RJDC fame.

Thoughts?

I miss the Republic-tron rumors. :(

They've just put in a bid for Morgan Stanley. Stay tuned. Trip7 said, "I'm happy for you and I'm o' let you finish, but the Republic takeover of Morgan Stanley is the best acquisition of all time, of ALL TIME!"

I'm kidding. Hope I didn't offend the poor guy! ;)

I'm pretty sure I just pooped myself. :rotfl:

It was his birthday a few days ago and I missed it, I HAD to pick on the guy! :)

Why is it a potential mess? Delta does away with comair, gives the planes to skywest or whoever, another thousand or so of your alpa "brothers" hit the street (many of whom did not work at comair during the strike or support the rjdc), and delta pilots everywhere can rejoice!

Why the bad blood between DAL pilots and Comair? Or if not "bad blood," lingering tension. I realize there was a strike, but aren't Comair and DL both ALPA?

Thus far as an XJTer I don't have too much to fear from Skywest, what makes the Comair situation so much different? Is everyone fearing a worst case scenario?

Someone posted a RUMOR scenario whereby on 1/1/11 comair pilots are no longer protected if their equipment gets sold. So Skywest buys the planes and routes...and not the pilots. I have no idea if that is accurate at all.

If I recall the "bad blood" has to do when DAL was furloughing. At the time, CMR was wholly owned and would take DAL furloughs.....but they had to resign their DAL seniority number. Say WHAT?!?! ASA, on the other hand, took the furloughs and allowed them to keep their seniority number. As far as I can tell, DAL has an excellent relationship with ASA....er, Atlantic Southest.

If this turns out to be true, I think Skywest might be biting off more than they can chew. ASA had pretty much settled into a reluctant but content status to be operated separately. Skywest Inc saying that ASA bought XJT, to me, is a huge shell game. Now you're saying ASA is a holding company owned by a holding company. Where does it end? Now, with Comair, is ASA gonna buy ANOTHER large regional in less than a month's time so Skywest can dance around the union vote yet again? At this rate, they'll lose tons of cash just on legal fees from the lawsuits over the SLIs.

Man, this has you Delta folks pretty interested. I jumped home yesterday on mainline and the first thing the FO asked was if Skywest was buying Comair like the forum rumors said.

I realize it affects you all because you own them, but the guys I talked to while jumpseating after the Mesaba/Compass sales (very limited number) didn't seem to care at all about those--would you say there's more of a buzz about selling Comair?

Because many are still holding a grudge.

Makes way more sense to buy Comair on the cheap and get rid of their aging pilot group. Saves money on both ends and secures more flying for SkyWest Inc.

Which is bad because most of the people suffering now had nothing to do with it. And the people who did pretty much disappeared into the industry scot-free.

I've got too many friends chained to the carcass that were part of the resistance, but find themselves with a bad stigma. It's disheartening.

Which is someone like me. I was still in high school school the Comair strike and when choosing to come here, I had hardly even heard of the strike or what it was about until I got here.

But it would really SUCK big time if I got furloughed from Comair twice within a year. It's stressing me out just thinking about it. The rumors are flying like crazy here. Just yesterday in ops, I heard everything from our MEC is trying to negotiate a flow with DL, to DL wants to get CRJ-1000's and get DCI guys to fly them with a DL senority number. Also heard the worst that we'll be shrunk down to nothing. Again all rumors, but that just tells you how much people are talking around here. I can't get away!

Personally I don't think (or hope) DL wouldn't approve of the costs of recalling 150 pilots, the costs of closing JFK and opening DTW, and then just shut us down. I think SKW buying us might be a good thing as long as us pilots come with it. Hopefully this stuff dies down and I can have fun flying.

I think more than skywest is going to be involved look for you know who to be involved as well. Either way bad situation

I'm with Saxman, most of what is left at OH had nothing to do with any of this and JC isn't too popular, most of the RJDC guys if not all are gone, I've heard but don't know for a fact that some are now on the DL seniority list so they have definitely slipped through the cracks... I was drinking beer in college and lurking on this website when most of this crap was happening, I try to not pay attention to all the rumors but it's been this way the entire time I've been around but I think something is bound to happen, but it wouldn't make sense to invest what they are in furlough recalls and re-upgrades, much of the house cleaning that's taken place should have been done years ago, no reason to have all that management and admin cost when all decisions come from ATL, but who knows time will tell.

More stapling. just add them below the expressjet and ASA guys.......

geeez take it easy guys. I'm only kidding!!!! I feel really bad for the Comair guys. I hope that everything turns out well for all of us. And yes, 7,000 strong, under one list can only make that happen.
