SkyWest Airlines - October 2024 Thread

In the weeks leading up to class the training department will send out a list of names and contact info of everyone (with their permission) to help people buddy up with each other to get a place. One bedroom apartments are pricy as heck but a two bedroom usually isn’t much more. So the roommate option is usually the way to go. I had three other roommates at the time that I worked there. All of them OO employees lol.
That's extremely nice that they look out for their employees in that way rare indeed.

It’s probably become a necessity due to how rents have gone up there. I know that back in the early 2000s it wasn’t hard to afford a one bedroom apartment on SGU on what they paid…my friend there had one…but today that apparently is no longer the case.

This. The market blew up in the late 10's and going into Covid. It's become the Florida of the west for West Coasters wanting to retire somewhere with decent weather and lots of golf. Before each class starts they also send an email out to the floor asking if anyone has a spare room they're looking to rent. They got a pay bump in starting pay a year or two ago but (without saying anything negative bc it really is a great place to get your career started) you're still going to need a roommate. Once able, go be a trainer or system controller for the extra override, it definitely softens the blow.

Does anyone know what to expect for the interview?
When I interviewed with Skywest, there were two sections of the interview: the HR part and the technical part. I recommend reviewing the material you learned in dispatch school. Be able to read a Jeppesen chart and understand what a HAT is for example. Be able to read weather products such as METARs, and TAFs and determine if an alternate is required at an arrival time based on the weather products.

I wish good luck on the interview. You got this!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Good morning was wondering from the individuals that have interviewed what are they looking for(asking) in the interview process?

Another random off topic question, do ya'll recommend signing a lease to an apartment before the start of the initial training class? Asking for advice.

I am trying to find places relatively cheap and close to Skywest, but some landlords are looking for tenants who can move in ASAP starting in December 1st.

I like planning ahead way ahead of time and would like a place beforehand so that I can settle in without stressing too much about it while also working this new job.

Have you physically looked at the apartment? Not over the internet, but you came to St. George and looked? We had a dispatcher try to do it over the internet and got taken for about $2000 for a non-existent apartment. Be careful out here.

Ask those who started jobs right during Covid and signed leases in states they weren’t already in. Not a wise decision.

On an unrelated note, is there anyone here that work in the St. George area that is looking for a roommate, know someone that is, or any housing groups I can look into? I tried posting into the "Rooms for Rent St. George" Facebook group, but every time I post there, my posting just disappears.
I'll be with you in the January class! Bill told me they are going to get us all in contact with each other and a list of people with available rooms I believe!

I’ve told another person who will be in the class in January, but ask Erin for the current airport code list. That something you can study now. Will see you all on the floor in a couple of months.
