SkyWest Airlines - April 2025 Thread

Well, hiring a dozen is good news considering the current state of affairs! Is this a product of Mesa going tango-uniform?

No. We do that to make up for the people that leave and the amount of flights that seems to increase. We start with 12 and about 10 make it through.

We did buy Mesa’s 900’s to use some of them and parts for the others.

None the less, given the current downturn in all things money, seeing an airline adding work is definitely a Good Thing! We are right at the beginnings of Majors grinding hiring to a halt.

Delta will be hiring for a fall class (idk if internal or external) and United is planning a couple classes this year I read?

Lets see how the economy does next quarter. We might see a lot of people and businesses with a sudden lack of disposable income if the economists are correct. That ain't good for an industry that survives on disposable income, and the Big Three are notorious for pivoting quickly and many times grossly with personnel when money gets tight. I really, really, REALLY hope I (and the economists who actually know what they are talking about) are wrong, but if I were a betting man, I would take the under on economic outlook.

I got the interview offer. Just don’t know if I really wanna live in SGU. Seems hard to commute and high rent. If the economy is bad id even be stuck there. Id rather go to regional in big cities. But my frds told me skw training is top notch. So i dont know…

I mean, you need experience to get to a major, and Skywest is about as solid a regional as you can work for right now. Worst case for commuting, you can always take a shuttle to LAS and fly out of there.

If you're in it for the long game, give it a go! Having recently been thru SGU, you're right -- it's a tough commute. But, St. George is economically growing at an astonishing rate. Even if you rent and just stay around for a little bit, say, as long as the work weeks get, the area itself is constantly expanding. Getting down to LAS is faster than up to SLC (if you drive) and as this thread and other OO threads have pointed out, it's a great regional for an experience in 121. @manniax mentions the experience bit, and other recent posts have pointed out applicant pools everywhere else are getting towards the hundreds. For hiring pools of 4-5 dispatchers.

Just my spare change in the thread.

Good luck!

I didnt hear anything back from SkyWest, I had a feeling I didnt do well on the written test but we will see, but I wouldnt be upset with getting an offer from SkyWest with the reputation they have in the industry (that being a really good one). PLus you could do other things such as Dispatch Trainer, or System Controller to make more money at SkyWest
