Skyway pilots will NOT receive severance pay.

I can't speak for Doug himself, but I'm glad he and others fought for a contract. It makes a huge difference. I came from a company with a comparable pilot group without a contract. Really, a severance would not make me stick around to the end. It's just sad that management won't offer one for those who are interested.

Doug,

Thanks for the insider's view. Looking back now, do you think the contract was worth forfeiting severance pay or would you have been better off without a contract? (I know you didn't know this would happen at the time, but with the benefit of hindsight, what do you say now?)

Absolutely worth it.

Here's the trick. In the days PREVIOUS to having a contract at Skyway, you still weren't one of the team because you were a "SkyDog". All things weren't even before we had a collective bargaining agreement at all.

Primarily because there was always a stack of resumes and we weren't much more than a basic "cost" that could be driven lower and lower because the resumes kept flooding in.

The severance pay isn't as much as an economic issue as it is just another 'poke in the eye', at least from my perspective and experience with the company.
