Hello All.

Anyone have any info on Skyway Enterprises out of Kissimmee, Fl.?

Like QOL, Pay, etc? Thanks. I am contemplating taking a job there, since they fly the shorts. Would it help to get to mainline faster since they fly A/C they wiegh over 12,000 lbs? This isn't a PFT type deal, at least that's what they told me.

Doug is this the outfit you worked for, or just similiar names?
 
Similar names. Skyway Airlines is outta MKE and they don't fly the Shorts. It won't necessarily help you get to a mainline faster, either. I've never heard of it, and I don't think they were around when I was in Orlando a few years ago.

If you want a shorts go to Air Cargo Carriers, night and day difference, I interviewed and was hired at ACC, turned the job down, but I met a guy who worked at Skyway in ISM and left to ACC, told me some good (read: bad) stories. Drop 'em like a hot potato.

Thanks wheels. I also did some snooping on the internet (Okay Airline Pilot Central.com) and found horror stories on the condition of thier aircraft. It was, to say the least horrible. then I heard the F.A.A. pulled thier operating certificate. And the planes, can you say CORRISION? NOT AIRWORTHY? They offered me 300.00 per week to fly thier A/C, that alone isn't going to buy gas these days, much less live in Florida.
I will be staying far,far, away from that place.
 
Well everyone, I started Indoc today at Skyway. The quick take, you ask?


Skyway has improved all the way around. ALL UNAIRWORTHY AIRCRAFT ARE BEING PARTED OUT. They are trying to grow, bidding UPS and whatever else is they can get thier hands on. Currently staffing for AD-HOC as well as Puerto Rico, also the MIA to NAS run. If your low time, they will give you a chance. They will put you up for training, but you have to buy your own lunch and dinner. The hotel provides a gut buster breakfast.

The planes conditions as I said before have improved, with anti-corrision treatments being applied, and if the a/c isn't up to snuff, it gets parted out. Maintenance is up to snuff, as well as encouragements to sqauwk whatever is wrong with the A/C. I was so concerned about this company, I went as far as calling the Orlando FSDO as well asking around for thier reputation. I was told by the FSDO that they comply with all applicable regulations. As far as local rumors by disinterested third parties, they have a good reputation, their maintenance has even gotten work from companies outside of Skyway. If your looking for that first flying job, I would definently call Skyway, check it out for yourself, and I am not being biased. If I felt this company was unsafe, I would have RAN AWAY!!

Has thier pay increased? ISM is my home airport and the fact of getting a job there intrigues me, but your right, in Orlando/ Kissimmee $300 a week won't cut it. If you want you can PM me the info. Thanks in advance.
 
No. Still 300.00 per week. I don't know if that will change or not. The job I was at paid me $135.00 EVERY TWO WEEKS. (Actually, about $260.00 every two weeks, but I got obligations.) You don't have to relocate, (not a problem for you, obviously) But as of now, there are oppurtunities to fly your butt off. Since this is MULTI TURBINE time that AIRLINES LOVE, you might want to consider that. A/C as you know is the shorts 360 SIC type rating included.

What are the mins and where can I apply? lol. Will it help if you walk it in? What are the general work hours? Where is training and how do employees seem so far?

Mins? Comm. Multi Inst rated, 1st or 2nd. class medical, I would think it would help if you walk it in, talk to Greg, new Chief Pilot, general work hours for the Mia-Nas run is posted on thier web site, everything else I don't know, besides you being on call for Ad-Hoc, training is in/at Kism, employees seem very nice,and are very helpful. The company is really laid back, so just be yourself. Another thing, they will send you a CD to help you get familiar with company procedures.

I would walk it in, they are on Patrick Street, which crosses Thacker, which crosses Irlo Bronson. When you get to the gate, just press the button to speak to someone. Hope this helps.
 
Sorry to bug you again man, but do the flights originate from ISM or do I have to commute to MIA? and is it possible for me to convince you to let me use you as a reference? I should have my Multi-Comm by the end of this month I hope. Thanks again for you continuing help.

Of course. Glad to help a fellow pilot out. From what I understand Kism is a maintenance base, but they are staffing for one flight that will be originating out of Kism soon. Go knock that multi-comm out.!!!
 
Basically, it's non-scheduled flight. Customer calls, needs to get 42,000 equine prophylactics from Orlando to Louisville and there you go!

Uhhh....yikes.
I'm not volunteering to put these things on the recipients once they get to Louisville.
 
Hey guys, I fly the shorts 360-300 with another company out of San Juan and I have to tell you, is a good bird, even though it looks kind of square, it flies pretty good, like though and like some of you were saying, its multi-time and turbine-time, so I thing you don't lose anything to try it.
 
I love the SD3. No two ways about it, it is a great way to move a 3.5 tons o' stuff at 160 kts. They don't get there quickly but speed isn't always the best thing if you are a low time guy trying to get hours in that logbook. The Sherpa is kinda like a shar-pei, so ugly...it's cute.
