SkyWalk @ SAC

Hey everyone! I get out of the Navy next year and will be moving to Sacramento to start college at Sac State. I'm looking to finish up my flight training there, all the way through CFI. I was searching around and came across SkyWalk Aviation which is based out of Sacramento Executive. Anyone flown with these folks before? Opinions, comments, anything would be great!

Thanks!

I got my private there back in 2002 and went elsewhere for the rest of my ratings. I wasn't real impressed with them, especially their maintenance. If you're bent on doing your training out of KSAC, I'd go next door to Executive Flyers. I did the rest of my training there. The owner, Ed Callaway, is a great guy and a DE as well. Let me know if you want more info. and I can tell you who to talk to there and recommend some instructors. I instructed there before the airlines and loved working there!

I'm not entirely decided on going to SAC... it just seems they have the large flight school presence in the area.

I suspect you may have gotten unintentionally involved in a little flight school drama. :)

I have quite a bit of experience with Skywalk (post-private flight training done there and instructed for a year and a half). I didn't have a problem with the maintenance while I was there. The instruction was great, the opportunity for multi time was there, and the networking possibilities are really good--the majority of the instructors there go on to the airlines and are more than willing to help out those coming after. The owner is very hands-on in the training; you'll do stage checks (and checkrides) with him and his standards are *very* high. They have examining authority for private, instrument, and commercial, which is pretty nice for students. They're VA approved as well.

No drama...just had students at Exec. Flyers who left SkyWalk because of maintenance..but the biggest was my former instructor at SkyWalk who now is a Bro. CA (;)) that you're probably familiar with who had nothing good to say about the maintenance there. No ill wills with them, I still go in and say hi to Mari when I'm at the airport. Just going by what I've been told. (At Flyers, you also don't have to wear the silly 2 stripe uniform as a CFI like you do at SkyWalk!! :D)

Check out both schools and wherever you feel more comfortable, go for it!!

No. The GI Bill will go towards college at Sac State. The BAH that is apart of the new post 9/11 GI bill will go towards flying (for the Sac region is about $1800 a month). Luckily I have a lot of family in the Sac area that will let me stay for practically nothing, no debt, just a cell phone and car insurance bill. I deploy at the end of the year and will get out just before it ends, so I'll have a good amount saved up to get going. I'll find a part-time job to maintain my "cash inventory." We'll see how this whole plan goes....

Good luck on the deployment and def keep up as much as possible wtih any changes the VA may implement in the meantime. Plenty of military types on here to help you out if need be when it comes time to continue your training.

Skywalk Rocks. I have nothing but great things to say about them. PM me for more info.

Like any business, Skywalk will be nice to your face and gladly take your money! I did private through commercial with them and saw a lot of things that weren't right. Instructors were great, but management and maintenance sucks! Good luck with your choices.

My father is a CFI/II/MEI out of SAC... he is "JaceTheAce'sDad" on JetCareers. He's an awesome instructor! You might want to get in contact with him.
