Yeah, the Cooper Vane had to be removed so that they can open the rear airstairs in flight and everyone can jump out the back of the jet, like in Air Force One with Harrison Ford:rotfl:

It worked for D.B. Cooper... I think.

Yeah, a DC-9.

IMHO you guys shouldn't be so quick to judge, and anyone who can manage a DC-9 operation out of an airport like Perris should not have their "Chief Pilot" title (drop zone or not) be a matter of debate on the internets.

Yeah, an old American Airlines DC-9. And just because you are above a "solid" layer somewhere near the DZ doesn't mean there isn't a hole over the DZ some miles away. Unless you fly right over the DZ and look straight down there really is no way for you to make that judgment.

It was not owned by American, in fact American has never operated the DC-9. The DC-9-21 (one of only 10 produced) that Perris flies used to be owned by SAS and Allegiant.

While there certainly are shady jump operators out there (just as there are shady flight schools, charter companies, banner tow operators, etc.), Perris ain't one of them.

:yeahthat:

Fholbert, I don't think you really know what you're talking about.

The big places like Perris are usually very professional. I'd even say the small places are professional as well, but the few bad ones out there give the whole industry a bad name.

Now jump pilot training, that's another story. There's definitely room for improvement there, industry-wide.

I can see just as well as the jump pilot.

I was going to stay out of this, but seriously, I can't.

I never figured I'd be able to maintain my VFR cloud clearances with a layer reported as broken. But you know, my skills increased so greatly by flying jumpers, that not only can I maintatin VFR, but I can put my jupers over the hole so they can get through maintaining them as well.

Not only that, but if I'm a little off, they pull high so that they can float under canopy to maintain VFR cloud clearances.

You have no idea, unless you've done it. Sorry.

Coming from a 2500 hour CFI. I want you to know that really hurt. ouch!

[modhat]as you can see these types of comments don't add to the conversation, more than that they seem to hurt the credibility of the poster within this conversation.

for the rest of you, no need to respond to this post, that has been well handled. Let's try to get back on track, if there is anything more that can be learned from this thread. [/modhat]

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

For the record, I wasn't trying to be a jerk. It just doesn't seem like you've been around dropzones/parachute operations enough to know the ins and outs of what goes on there. It's another world most pilots don't get to see up close, and it's surprising (both good and bad) what goes on in that world.

The only reason I understand it as well as I do is because I'm both a jump pilot and jumper myself. I've learned a tremendous amount through personal involvement. A lot of the stereotypes I imagined when I first started hanging out at the DZ have turned out to not be true at all.

A DC-9?

What the strake are you talkin' about, Frank?

That's no -50...:D

Never mind the motors!

it's what many people here have been trying to tell you but you're not listening.

I respect jrh more than most posters on the forum. There's a reason for that. Personally I see your post as a derrogatory statement, looking down on someone because of either - time or credentials.

However, I've seen more wisdom from the aforementioned time and credentials (ie jrh) than I have seen from any of your posts. Might want to think about who is stating what before trying to shoot someone down here. Just something to think about

fholbert, stop. Just stop. Every one of your posts in this thread is showing severe ignorance about this subject.
:yeahthat: I don't know squat about the subject (I'm not even done with my Comm ASEL yet), so I've kept my mouth shut and just read the posts to try to educate myself.
