SjS flare up.

Oh man I hope so. That kind of Star Trek shiz is what I want to see, not the 737 mega-uber-max-neo-nexgen.

I think the newer F/A-18's do this. You could AAA most of one of the wings off and the flight control computers will pretty much correct for it. It makes sense though.

I can see if a good percentage of the wing gets blown off (or, in the case of civilian aviation, falls off) and the FCC using all remaining control surfaces to mitigate, as much as possible, the roll and pitch moment, alerting the crew that there's a control issues and a big assed Airbus-esque LAND NOW

The sidestick is nice! Except when your knee bumps it as you're reclining and the "Calvary Charge" blares.

This is a three-engine airplane (Martin XB-51, a distant progenitor for CAS).

Yea except the F/A-18 has these HUGE fully independent pitch AND (nerdgasm alert) roll stabilators that are like half the size of the actual wing. Imagine that scaled up on a 777

I bet the folding wings stay, they had the chance to take them off the drawing boards months ago and still haven't. It's half the marketing for this plane. Did you see the route map concentrating on Dubai? They love cool flashy things like folding wings so Boeing will do it for them I think.

I remember reading somewhere that the F-15 was bigger and carried more ordnance, (tonnage of bombs,) than a B-17.

It isn't physically larger than a B-17 (although it is similar in size to the B-25), but the F-15E is much heavier in gross weight and can definitely carry a lot more ordnance than the B-17.

By my memory, the B-17 was capable of about a max 10,000# bomb load (although in practice they only carried about 5,000#). The F-15E can carry a 20,000# bomb load (which is more like what the B-29 could max out carrying), although like the B-17 that's not what we usually flew into combat with (which, ironically, was usually only about 5,000# as well).
