It's national policy, actually, and you can thank one of your co-workers for that one. It's just that very few airports still do it, but when I was here in 2007/2008 you always had to take it out.
The best I've had so far was the guy in CID that took about 5 minutes (no crap, 5 minutes) investigating my badge. He wasn't convinced it was me, being that at the time I had my hair buzzed down and I was actually smiling, which is pretty much the polar opposite of me when I go through a TSA checkpoint.
