Single Engine Turbo Prop

It honestly sounds like his needs, and requirements and price are literally removing him from any single engine turboprop on the market. I highly doubt you can find a Meridian for 1.7 with a G1000 only because the G1000 option has only been available for a year or 2. If he can stand the Avidyne which is a great platform then he can pull a meridian off. Yes the payload isn't awesome, but its totally doable if you plan. Honestly it sounds like the only option is a Meridian at this point.

You can find a PC-12 easily in the 2's. Having flown both, they fly about the same speed, the Pilatus has a bigger engine but doesnt burn a whole lot more fuel, but it holds much more and the payload is great. Our Pilatus has an ISNS, which if I remember is a Honeywell system. It is a great system. If he can not limit himself to a G1000 there are many glass panel options out there.
 
Well I am sorry but as everyone has already mentioned the price and the lack of options has hurt you. I do agree the MU-2 is a great option in and out of a short field no problem -10 engines on a short body and its a screamer. I know where you can get a freshly painted one with a waas 530 and low time engines for like 550 grand. for the money savings you can have a G600 put in for the glass and fly a whole lot on the other 4-500 thousand. 315kts in the low to mid 20's. I know I know its not a single engine but as one man I talked to stated "a single engine in the air is in a perpetual state of emergency with just engine out there carrying you around." There is of course some training involved but that being said insurance is gonna insist on training for all of these planes. The good thing is you get to go see Reese Howell in TN and have a great time doing the training with him.

As of '03 the useful payload is around 650 pounds. Prior to '03 you only have around 350 pounds. In thirty minutes I am doing a 400nm trip in an '01 Meridian. I will take off with 700 pounds of fuel which gives me 880 pounds of payload. If I was in an '04 or later on this trip, I would have over 1,100 pounds of payload available on a 400nm trip with an hour of reserves.

Or if you don't mind going a bit slower, a early caravan would work (plenty of payload).

Our Meridian is an 08 and has a 1625 useful load which nets us a bit less than 500lbs payload with full fuel.
 
I really wouldn't have a specific recommendation, but that turbo bonanza looks really sweet. What kind of range does it have with that conversion? Wouldn't the turbine dry it up a lot faster than the stock engine, or does it have an extra tank or something put in as well.
 
Extra 500, perhaps if you can find one in the states? Or maybe look into the Epic LT, which seem to be listed right at about 1.7 million these days. Also the Quest Kodiak might work, if you can take a little slower. Perhaps look at the Turbine Partenavia as well. Or if you really are worried about field length, the PC-6 would work, but they ain't going anywhere in a hurry.

the Pc6 is awesome!! I have about 40 hours in it, a friend of mine owns one and he has been flying it for biz flights since the 80s, he had two one got burned down.

I flew a lot as a passenger in it too, it`s so roomy and not even that loud. The airplane is built really smart, there is a compartment in the tail where you can slide the seats in when not used.

The new one comes with Garmin glass and you can retrofit the old ones.

yes it`s slow, but with the extra wing tanks you can fly forever.

The only issue with the T-Duke in the OPs situation is the 3700' runway if it's at an sort of altitude. If it's grass, forget about it. It's a 17% distance penalty for grass. The problem with the T-Duke is that you don't get new performance data. Rocket just says "you can meet or exceed the piston performance". Well DUH!

Really? After spending all that money on converting the thing that's all they can provide you for performance data? Wow!

Even a Marquise (long body) is pretty darn fast and you can take a lot of friends. I've only flown the long bodies but I've been told the short bodies can be a little tricky on short field landings because of the nose gear. Take it for what it's worth. Also Intercontinental Jet is doing some kind of full glass panel upgrade on them, if that's your thing.

This is what I want. You can always go for a mid-time piston IV-P and do the conversion later. They are about half the price with a piston engine in them.
