Florida Forest Service Brooksville, Florida:<BR /><p><strong>FLORIDA FOREST SERVICE</strong></p><p><strong>CONTACT:<br /></strong></p><div>Sheila Smith, (352) 797-4118</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><br /><strong>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</strong></div><div><br />Certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a Commercial Pilot (or better) with Airplane/Single Engine-Land and Instrument-Airplane ratings. </div><div><br />Must have logged seven hundred and fifty (750) hours of flight time.</div><div><br />Current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Class 1 or Class 2 Medical Certificate.</div><div><br />Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.</div><div><br />In accordance with Florida Statute 633, any person employed in this class must:</div><ul><li>Be a high school graduate or the equivalent, as the term may be determined by the Division of State Fire Marshal of the Department of Financial Services, and at least 18 years of age.</li><li>Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor relating to the certification or to perjury or false statements, or a felony or a crime punishable by imprisonment of 1 year or more under the law of the United States or any state thereof or under the law of any other country, or dishonorably discharged from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. &nbsp;&#8220;Convicted&#8221; means a finding of guilt or the acceptance of a plea of guilty or nolo contendere, in any federal or state court or a court in any other&nbsp;country, without regard to whether a judgment of conviction has been entered by the court having jurisdiction of the case.</li><li>Submit a fingerprint card to the division with a current processing fee. The fingerprint card will be forwarded to the Department of Law Enforcement and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation.</li><li>Have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure established by the division.</li><li>Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination as prescribed by the division. &nbsp;Such examination may include, but need not be limited<br />to, provisions of the National Fire Protection Association Pamphlet 1582.</li><li>Be a non-user of tobacco or tobacco products for at least one (1) year immediately preceding application, as evidenced by the sworn affidavit of the applicant. <br /></li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><div><strong>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</strong></div><div><br />Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.</div><div><br />The incumbent must live within thirty (30) miles of the assigned headquarters located at 15019 Broad Street, Brooksville, Florida, by the first day of appointment.</div><div><br />Florida Statute 633 requires that any person employed in this class obtain a Certificate of Compliance which includes, in addition to the above requirements, satisfactory completion of a fire fighter training program approved by the Florida Forest Service. No employee shall obtain permanent status unless the Certificate is<br />received.</div><p><br />Applicants who receive a job offer must pass: </p><ol><li>Pre-employment drug screening</li><li>Pre-employment comprehensive medical examination</li><li>Pre-employment physical fitness test</li></ol><p><br /></p><div><strong>NOTES:</strong></div><div><br />Successful applicant must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.</div><div><strong><br /><br /><strong>JOB DUTIES:</strong></strong></div><div><br />Aerial Detection and Suppression: Provides fire intelligence and directions to fire crews engaged in fire suppression activities.Recognizes those elements that affect fire and potential safety problems and advises ground crews. Flies predetermined routes and areas for the purpose of sorting smokes, detecting fires, detecting insect and disease occurrences, checking best management practices on silvicultural activities, and other flights as assigned. Coordinates with the District Manager to establish fire detection routes and patterns to best cover assigned areas of responsibilities. Participates in weekend duty rotation with pilots from adjoining districts.</div><div><br />Maintains currency in assigned aircraft. Acts as pilot-in-command flying personnel as required. Performs preflight inspections, checks weather, flies flight plans as<br />appropriate, performs post flight duties, such as prepares aircraft discrepancy list, fuel aircraft, insures security of aircraft, closes flight plan, maintains pilot proficiency. Coordinates district aircraft maintenance to include; washing and waxing aircraft, cleaning interior, changing oil, changing tires, replacing bulbs, lubricating hinges and bearings, exchanging radios (if advised to do so by Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor).</div><div><br />Works as needed with the Center&#8217;s Mitigation Specialist and will assist as needed with County and Community FIREWISE and other mitigation programs throughout the Center.</div><div><br />Initiates and maintains contacts with local County Sheriff&#8217;s Offices Aviation Units to offer training and assistance, as needed, to ensure their compliance with FS 590.02(1)(h). Interfaces routinely with local news media aviation departments as necessary to ensure their compliance with the air space requirements during wildfire suppression efforts.</div><div><br />Maintains and updates the WFC Fire Occurrence maps.Responsible for updating and maintaining our Landowner Fire Policy files to include contacting major landowners on an annual basis to keep informed of their wishes and concerns with regards to wildland fire, update maps of their holdings by using the FC5400-3 Landowner Fire Policy form. Develops and maintains currency with our WFC Aircraft Operations Plan.Monitors our Flight Following procedures and works with the DOS to ensure compliance.
