I'm assuming they banked to try to land on the highway. Perhaps it would have been better if they just landed straight ahead and got some more glide out of it? Don't know...I'm unfamiliar with the area.

Accelerated is an understatement - they often boasted about how they got one guy from 0-hours to PPL in 7-days.

I did some training there a few years back and left specifically because I didn't think it was a very professional environment, and I had some concerns regarding my safety. That was just my opinion, though.
