Single Engine Add on to Existing CPL-ME

Fello Aviatiors,

Next week I am scheduled for my Commercial Single Engine add-on checkride. I already obtained my Commercial Multi few months back. I was looking in the SE PTS Standards and it says on the ORAL portion if you already have CPL-ME, you will only be tested on the AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS/Performance. And in the flight there will be no stalls or steep turns, just the new single engine maneuvers consisting of CHANDELES, LAZY 8, 8S ON PYLONS, STEEP SPIRAL AND POWER OFF 180. Just wanted to make sure or ask if anybody else who did Multi first and then Single Engine add on, is this really all they test you on. I know we still need to be aware of all the Commercial ground stuff like currency req, weather, etc and stalls, vmc demo, etc but if this is the case it will make my prep for the single engine add on really stress free especially for the Oral part. I did ask this to my instructor and he said whatever the PTS says just follow that. Appreciate any input.

Cheers

This is all correct. Commercial Single engine add-on is very easy. our examiner has the oral done in about 30-45 mins and flight in about 1.5 hours. Oral is just systems.

Agreed. It is an extremely easy checkride. Know the systems of the airplane and practice the commercial flight maneuvers and your good.

Good Luck!

I had the oral portion of my CSEL add on today and basically we went over performance/limitations and systems. I think we may be required to do a short and soft field t.o. and landing but I'm not sure. Good luck on your add on!

Actually, the examiner can have you perform any maneuvers he wants- in addition to the required tasks for the add-on. I'd be surprised if slow flight, steep turns, & stalls weren't included on your checkride.

That said, time is money, and the time an examiner spends having you perform extra, non-mandatory tasks is time he can't use to earn a fee giving somebody else a checkride

Good luck. Show 'em how it's done

Also, this add-on doesn't have to be in a complex airplane. I did a CP-ASEL add-on for someone last summer in a Cub. It was pretty cool to have a 20 yr old kid fly a Cub for a commercial checkride in the 21st century.

I've had pilots do them in a Cessna 140. Oral does not last very long.
