Simulator Flying Today: Hectic! Unbelievable Fun!

So today, me and ray (indianapilot) headed down to alteon to knock some time around in the simulator and be wanna be airline pilots for a few hours. Oh man, was that fun!

So show up, pre flight with Elden (hilarious guy!) and he preps us for our flight.

First part was takeoff from JFK, then do a pattern to land, then circle to land, and then go missed and do canarsie approach. Then takeoff again and head to la guardia. Then takeoff again but right around V1 cut one engine.

Okay so first, im pilot not flying, doing all the F/O stuff. Pretty fun/different perspective. Enjoyed it very much. He did everything fine. I used his flight as a training flight for myself.

Then, time for me to fly. Did everything fine, up until the single engine approach in some crappy visability. I was really working trying to shoot that ILS approach. Lets say, everything i did pre to that landing was great. I was above the threshold with steady decline in altitude, when i flared and i floated. Was prolly the hardest touchdown EVER! Stuff kinda flew around, but oh man, it was fun.

Okay, enough airliners.net type posting, just thought i'd give the information, PRE to RAY POSTING VIDEO OF MY APPROACH SINGLE ENGINE.

It's pretty bad..but nonetheless, fun. Thanks again Mike!:rawk:

Pics and videos will be up too.

Waiting on Ray to post em!

That wasn't an a.net post. An a.net post would have been prefaced by "Dude, I was out spotting..."

ya bigey as soon as i get back home i'll post the video :) only problem is its kinda dark, and was hard to get a good shooting angle from the right seat. the sound is pretty cool though....you can hear the instructor in the background coaching and stuff

Was it like "Flare.... Flare flare flare! *whap* Dear lord, I'm going to have to reset the sim.... Motions coming off!"

Oh no, not like that. It's not like i didnt flare, i just flared and floated for about 20 feet off the ground.

One thing i felt/saw was everything is happening SO QUICKLY. Was really scary...

Gave me a sense of "oh ****, if these pilots **** up, we're dead" and then made me think 20 bucks an hour for doing this stuff aint good enough.

Little side fact:

I've got more 717 (sim) time than i've got in the cessna!

lol naw......he flared but started to float , then it settled FAST ! just about knocked the camera out of my hand :) the instructor actually had a funny lil comment....he told bigey that he just "spanked the baby" lol

Yeah, and then he tried to be optimistic.

"That was a thumper, but a good landing, dont worry bout it, good landing"

Oh man, Elden just had some funny words to say.

"Picture the ILS like Kournakova's legs, and you've only got one shot to get in there. It's tough, but rewarding. Remember, if you dont get in, someone else will...."

Sounds like a lot of fun...sounds like I missed out big time! It sucks to have to be responsible and have a job sometime!

Oh my god... I've got a sim instructor like that. Makes the experience a lot of fun - nothing like getting stock advice 100 ft above minimums :)

Glad you two had a good time! Bigey, did your dad get to fly?

Bigey's Dad flew twice before, Bigey's Dad is one of the nicest person that you will ever meet. He drives Bigey to all of the special events, Bigey is very lucky to have a Dad like that.

Yeah simulators are really fun. Ive been In a GV and am going to go again soon with the same guy, the next time I get some vidieo and pics to post up. Nice going Bigey!

Did you say it was a 717 sim?

It was just a great experience feeling like an airline pilot for a couple of minutes.
Ray (Indian Pilot) did a great job flying and very smooth landing, but my landing, geeze you don't wann hear about it, I just got the plane on the ground in one piece with the help of Copilot Mark E.
Thanks again Mike for all you did.
