can you MEL defer it?

If so how long? I know it might vary by airline but just general question....
 
if you wait for two seconds im sure i can find it. im going to say yes in order to get it to mx with no pax on board. ill find it for you according to senator air.
 
well i was wrong. we can fly three days with that thing inop as long as no arrival or departure agency needs it.
 
It depends on the type of operation (91, 91K, 135, 121, 121), the type of craft (Group I or Group II), the powerplants, the master MEL (http://fsims.faa.gov/PublicationForm.aspx) and the operator's MEL.

I'll bet it's either an "A" or "B" item. Good research for school.

I think you have TCAS screwed up with the transponder MEL their Andrew. I have a feeling there are different parts of the MEL line that goes TCAS/Transponder.
 
As the following excerpt from the B747-400 and ERJ 170 Master MEL (The document which operators may use to develop their own MELs) shows, the TCAS MEL is dependent on different things, and may be MEL'd differently.

The kicker is a TCAS unit is dependent on the type of operation. A passenger operation shows a "B" item (3 days) and a cargo operation is "C" item (10 days). One level of safety, right?

just got off the phone with our fearless leader and he and i were somewhat suprised the faa said yea no worries with having the tcas inop. you cargo guys a dangerous! :sarcasm:

On the real man's airplane we were able to defer it for 10 days.

Fun times when going into RKD or BHB in the summer!
