Simple question regarding Vref and Vref + Factor

We were trained to fly Vref+5 (no crosswind) until the 50ft call then we closed the power. The drag would bleed the speed in the flare so you hit Vref right as you were about to hit the TDZ. Our sim guy told us each knot above ref was an additional 200ft(I think) in the float.

In the 200 I started taking power out at 100ft with power all gone by 50ft

In the 700 power starts coming out at 50ft with power all gone by 10ft

When you're flying just Vref, you can wait until 70 ft to start pulling the power back. When we flew Vref+5, I did it the same way you do. Now that we just fly Vref, wait a couple of seconds after the "100" GPWS call, and it's pretty much the same thing.

Although the guys in the sim that have never flown the CRJ will tell you to keep the power in until 50 ft, then slam the thrust levers to idle. Works in the sim, not so much in real life.
