Sim Question

Does anyone know out of the 50 hours PIC cross country needed to get the instrument rating, how much time can be in a full motion simulator? Not a PCATD. Also, can it be PIC cross country hood time?

iirc (i dont have my regs in front of me) its 20 hrs. It doesnt need to be a full motion sim either, a level 1 FTD will be fine to log that time. Under part 61 i dont think you get anything extra for using a level C or D sim except a bigger bill for your flight training. You will need an instructor to endorse all the time you intend to log in an FTD or sim.

I could be wrong, and I don't have the FARs in front of me, but I think you can only count 20 hours of sim time as simulated instrument toward your instrument rating. I don't think any of that can be counted as cross country, and I don't think being full-motion makes a difference. And I'm almost positive that you cannot log any sim time as PIC. However, any and all hood time can be counted as both PIC and cross country assuming you were a PPL at the time and the flight was over 50nm.
