Hello everybody.

I was just wondering what the standardization process for SAA is like? I know that it is 3 days, but has anybody gone through the process? Any details will help.

;)

Im currently working for SAA.
do not sweat at all for standz training its really really really a breeze.
1st day- basic intro of all the management staff and some policies , you will be be given a written test same day which is open book and you have to return end of the next day.
then 3rd day they will schedule stands flight in 152, you will pretty much do steep turns or slow flight and do 3 take off and landings thats it. u r hired at that point if you dont kill stands person in flight.

Are you still working at SAA..? I am headed down there in a couple weeks for standz training and was hoping to get more information on the company and any the current conditions of the company... Any information would be great.

I am actually still working here. I can't complain too much. Free housing, tons of hours and good people. The cons would be..
We don't have state of the art aircraft
The cafeteria food is inedible
Its hot as heck

Overall I will say this, you'll build hours quick. It is really what you make of it, Atwater isn't the best city, but we aren't too far from a lot of awesome places. What is your name and when are you coming?

My name is Travis and I will be in Atwater on the 28th. What are the students like..?
I've heard good and bad about SAA, but that's true about everywhere. all in all no where is perfect and it can't be any worse than when I was in the military lol...

Sweet. The students are all international students. There are Chinese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese and Korean students. Some study harder than others, some fly better than others, but overall good atmosphere. All students are very respectful to their instructors. Most of the instructors here are ATP grads. There are good and bad as you have said, but it isn't too bad. If you have all your instructor ratings, you move with your students and finish them off in the multi. if you don't have all you're ratings, you stay where you are and receive new students and cannot move into other aircraft. however they will help you get your next rating at lower costs. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Is the first week you are there like Mike45 was saying... Or atleast close to it. any and all information would be awesome so I know what I'm in for...

SAA needs flight instructors pretty bad. I don't think they will be very picky at the moment. When you arrive on Saturday or Sunday, you basically get situated in your room. There are two buildings that SAA uses. Building 317 and 318. All instructors live on the 1st floor and the students live on the 2nd and 3rd floor. On Monday you will most likely meet Bob. He will have you check out some paperwork, give you a tour of the place and hand you the SOP for SAA. At the end of the first day Bob will give you a take home written test. The exam is heavily IFR material and you have all night and all day to finish. On Tuesday, you will turn in your test to Bob and go over MYFBO.COM. How the program works, what you're expected to do with the program etc. That will be the end of Tuesday. On Wednesday you will go up in a 152 for your standz flight. All you do is go out to the practice area, show whoever you are standzing with a steep turn, a slow flight and 3 stop and goes. (These maneuvers will be performed as it is stated in the SOP). Overall a real simple flight that no one should worry about. Just as Mike45 has stated, if you don't crash you'll be fine. After getting back down on the ground, you will be offered the job. You will most likely receive students on Thursday or Friday. The whole process is very simple and can most likely be done in 1 or 2 days instead of 3. If you have any more questions, let me know.

Has the standardization process changed at all since the previous posts?

Probably not, I instructed there for a month a while back and my standz class consisted of an hour flight in a 152. I did steep turns, stalls, and 3 landings.

I hated it there: horrible housing (but it's free), planes barely airworthy, no assistance from management, horrible food, my students couldn't speak English, the list goes on.....

I don't normally post bad things about companies but I just want to let people know what to expect so they don't end up really disappointed like I did (as I was so excited when I got the job).

Were you able to build a decent amount of hours quickly? My buddy recently got hired there and says he got about 35 hours in the first week, which doesn't seem too bad.
